Job Description:
We’re searching for a skilled home designer / project manager to contribute to Backcountry Containers growth and help us maintain our position as a high-quality manufacturer of modular homes and offices made from shipping containers. This position reports directly to the VP of Design & Project Management and will have oversight of projects from design to delivery. The VP of Design & Project Management will guide the applicant through a smooth onboarding and mentor the applicant throughout their career at Backcountry Containers, to promote opportunities for upward advancement.
The primary objectives / responsibilities of this role are:
· Designing customer homes with any software that the applicant is comfortable with (i.e. Chief Architect, SolidWorks, AutoCAD, etc..). The only requirement is that the software has the capability to design tiny homes. This part of the role can be customer facing or not, whichever the applicant prefers. This part of the role works closely with our Sales Manager.
· Taking the customer designs and creating construction plan sets for permitting purposes and submitting those to Local AHJ. Company has templates and many examples to start from.
· Passing the construction plans off to our Production Manager & Purchasing Manager and answering any project questions they may have or troubleshooting any production issues they may run into.
· Oversee the project progress from start to finish and provide regular project status updates to the customer and Backcountry operations team (twice a month via email). Ensure compliance with quality control program.
· Your direct reports will be (2) experienced Production Managers. The Production Managers manage a team of craft workers that perform the following trades: welding, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, insulation, painting, HVAC.
· Monitor and assign resources appropriately to streamline project efficiency and maximize deliverable outputs.
Required Experience:
- Design software experience
- Experience creating construction plan sets (or similar) for permitting purposes
- Project management experience
Preferred Experience:
- Experience in the construction and/or manufacturing industries
- Experience with IBC/IRC Code Regulations
- Carpentry experience
- Experience building modular homes or other structures
