You are a proven director – a true leader of people & well practiced at delegating, holding people accountable & you can easily juggle the day-to-day logistics of a complex, tech heavy, remote operation. You are a financial WIZARD & you LOVE Quickbooks Online…(read that again!)

The Job :

This position is responsible for the Finance Department of Backcountry Journeys. The Finance Director is in charge of managing staff in the finance department as well as the financial health of the company.

As a small business our finance department currently only has one bookkeeper however that will change as the organization grows & evolves. The Finance Director at Backcountry Journeys wears many hats including Accountant, Controller, Manager & overseeing business compliance.

The core function of this position is managing & leading your team as well as ensuring financial control & accuracy. You are directly responsible for the financial operations at Backcountry Journeys.

You will work as a member of our Leadership Team and report to the Chief Operating Officer (currently the founder of the company).

Having prior experience working for a company running on EOS is HUGE for this role.

A large part of this role is leadership, management & accountability as well as internal process creation, budgeting, forecast modeling & providing professional guidance for the Leadership Team.

As a small company we all wear many hats & this role is also responsible for business licensing, compliance & taxes as well as insurance.

Core Responsibilities

Lead, Manage, Accountability

  • Member of our Leadership Team & responsible for staff on a growing finance team
  • Responsible for Finance related process & policy creation
  • Finance department quality control & accuracy
  • Financial accountability across the company

Budgeting, Forecasting & Reporting

  • Responsible for developing & managing company budgets
  • Professional financial guidance for leadership team
  • Responsible for creating & maintaining constant reporting to allow for data driven decision making
  • Responsible for projections to guide the direction of the company’s growth
  • Responsible for financial modeling & future forecasting
  • Responsible for ensuring profitability & financial health
  • Funding & Banking

  • Secure necessary funding for company needs (loans, mortgages, vehicles, lines of credit etc) & to hedge against unforeseen events
  • Manage & Oversee Financial establishment partnerships & relationships
  • Manage processes for AP / AR, Wires, Credit Cards, Staff Financial Accountability
  • Business Licensing, Compliance & Taxes

  • Responsible for business licensing, compliance & tax preparation
  • Responsible for sales tax compliance
  • Insurance

    Responsible for regular insurance reviews & maintaining adequate coverage for a variety of company requirements

    Required Skills

  • 4 years experience in the outdoor adventure travel industry
  • 10 years in Finance
  • Quickbooks Online Expert
  • Proven Experience managing the financial health of a business entity with annual revenues of at least $10,000,000
  • Proven leader
  • CPA, Controller
  • Insane attention to detail and high standards of accuracy
  • Positive, flexible, solution oriented, and excited to work with a diverse team
  • Outstanding communication skills (both written and verbal) — you have a knack for offering constructive feedback, effective delegation, and ensuring everyone on your team is on the same page
  • This is a remote work / home-based position. Please note that all candidates must have the following :

  • Reliable Home Office (PC, Printer, Phone etc, etc, etc) with dual monitors
