What are the responsibilities and job description for the BYS After School Sports Instructor position at Backyard Sports?
We are looking for experienced, enthusiastic and dependable youth sport coaches/instructors and teachers who are excited to work with children of all ages and ability levels. We are seeking sports instructors with a background in one or more of the following sports: basketball, flag football, baseball/softball, soccer and PE/Camp-style games. Backyard Sports runs various community based sports programs ages pre-k to high school (coed) including summer camps, year-round sports clinics, at-home training, after school programs, holiday camps and other special events/programs. Backyard Sports programs are offered 7 days per week, and we are flexible with coaches who have limited days/times/availability. Our immediate need is for after-school sports instructors who are available between 3-5pm on weekdays beginning in September.
Backyard Sports program locations vary throughout Westchester County including White Plains, Scarsdale, Purchase, Mamaroneck, Larchmont, New Rochelle, Briarcliff, Yorktown, Bedford and Mount Vernon, NY. Backyard Sports Coach responsibilities include leading small groups, planning curriculum/practice plans to maximize engagement (with the help of BYS Program Directors), managing equipment (setup and cleanup), resolving conflict between participants, encouraging/building a positive relationships with participants, and communicating directly with BYS Directors and staff on a regular basis. Compensation will be commensurate with experience ranging from $30-$50/hour for adult lead instructors.
Responsibilities
- Plan age appropriate curriculum/practice plans for programs/camps
- Lead or assist in running sports programs/camps
- Oversee children to ensure safety and engagement
- Encourage participants to build confidence and have fun!
- Managing equipment (pick-up/drop-off and set-up/clean-up)
- Resolve occasional participant conflict and/or bring to the attention of BYS Directors to address behavioral issues
- Make sure all health and safety rules/protocols are being followed
Skills
- *MUST BE 18 YEARS OR OLDER TO APPLY* - Lead Coaches will be considered with 5 years of relevant experience. Assistant Coaches will be considered with 2 years of relevant experience. Pay scale will be commensurate with experience.
- Expertise in one or more of the following sports: basketball, flag football, baseball/softball, soccer and PE/Camp-style games is preferred.
- Patience, punctuality and a positive/encouraging coaching style is a must.
- Strong organizational and communication skills are preferred
- Counselors must have a passion for working with children
- First aid- and CPR-certified is preferred
