What are the responsibilities and job description for the SR. MECHANICAL ENGINEER - INDUSTRIAL position at Baker Group?

PURPOSE

The Senior Mechanical Engineer-Industrial will develop strategies for Industrial growth in new and existing markets and collaborate with the team on implementation of strategy and delivery of projects. This role will also support the creation, identification and development of client relationships supportive of the Baker Group Mission, Core Focus and Core Values.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The following duties are typical for this job. These are not to be constructed as exclusive or all inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

• Continuously develop relationships with existing clients and pursue opportunities which provide long-term customer relationships and revenue opportunities

• Participate in planning and formulation of design alternatives and solutions for major construction projects; assist in estimating, feasibility studies, and may coordinate production of basic design plans and construction documents

• Review and interpret proposed designs, architectural drawings, and building specifications for appropriateness to required function and/or institutional standard, and initiate revisions where appropriate; advise consultants and clients how best to achieve required results

• Represent Baker Group in business with clients, consultants, contractors, and other public and/or private agencies and organizations

• Develop key contact list and build relationships with potential clients

• Play integral role in relationship building and management of clients, assist direct reports with “key clients” and help them track sales activity

• Effectively lead or support sales process and presentations for new and prospective clients

• Achieve high levels of client satisfaction consistently

• Display optimism, honesty and integrity and lead by example

• Support culture of safety across all business units

• Lead and implement process improvement initiatives

• Support corporate goals, VTO’s, and personal Business Development Plans

• Value and maintain internal and external relationships at all levels

• Assist in the evaluation of individual project opportunities to eliminate “big losers”

• Achieve quality and financial goals for BU consistently

• Assist Business Unit leader with yearly Pro-Forma Business Plan, quarterly and yearly BU financial statements to gain insight into positive or negative trends in profitability

• Participate in negotiation of business and legal provisions of construction contracts

• Drive use of pre-fabrication efforts deeper into the business unit

• Actively participate in Industry Associations

• Design, organize, and produce Request for Proposals and Prequalification Statements


MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Degree in Construction Science, Construction Management, or Civil/Mechanical Engineering OR Five years of directly related experience to duties specified

• P.E. License


CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

• Valid driver’s license


MENTAL AND PHYSICAL COMPETENCIES REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Good vision and hearing

• Solid organization, problem-solving, personnel management, leadership, and communication skills

• Knowledge of contract language

• Crisis management skills

• Basic accounting knowledge

• Ability to multi-task

• Moderately exposed to unusual elements and may require moderate physical activity

• Exposure to toxic/caustic chemicals

• Working in high/exposed places
