Department: Assembly

Reports To: Assembly Supervisor

SUMMARY

Sets up and operates single spindle threading machine to thread and chamfer cylindrical stock. Also assembles finished products using threaded cylindrical stock by performing the following duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.

  • Compiles dimensions of stock, sequence of machining operations, and type and size of thread from charts and specifications.
  • Selects, installs, and adjusts threading die, die cutters, chamfering tools, feed grips, pressure tripping mechanism, cams, gears and pulleys.
  • Selects correct material from inventory and positions on roller inventory.
  • Lifts stock manually, with hoist, or by operating powered conveyor table and positions and secures stock in chuck jaws.
  • Verifies dimensions of workpieces with specifications.
  • Operates threading machine to cut threads on workpiece.
  • Removes workpiece from machine, cleans, and transfers to assembly workstation.
  • Using standard drawings or specifications and taking heed of particular requirements on work order or routing, assembles manufactured parts to workpiece to complete finished unit.
  • Maintains inventories of component parts and stock and periodically verifies accuracy and quantity of inventories.
  • Applies coating to units as required for visual appeal.
  • Installs appropriate shipping plugs in finished units, stacks them, and conveys them to drop zone.
  • Maintains and records accurate count of workpieces produced and personal hourly attendance data.
  • Practices safe work habits, maintains workplace in good order, and wears issued personal protective equipment in the workplace.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or WORK EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret, documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before employees of organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand. The employee frequently is required to walk; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and frequently lift and/or move up to 300 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.

COMPETENCE, AWARENESS AND TRAINING

Competence, awareness, and training for probationary employees will be assessed by the “New Employee Checklist,” and the evaluations conducted and 30, 60, and 90 days, along with other training as needed. Competence, awareness, and training for regular employees will be assessed when annual evaluations are conducted, along with other measurements in accordance with the area the employee is assigned to.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $18.75 per hour
