What are the responsibilities and job description for the Transporter position at Bakersfield American Indian Health Project?
The Transporter is integrated Medical and Behavioral Health Departments and provides needed transportation services to clients seeking healthcare services. Healthcare transportation services include but are not limited to COVID-19 testing, food equity, delivery of healthcare supplies, medication delivery; patient pick up/drop off to and from home, appointments, treatment centers, and other health care sites. Services are provided to groups, youth, adults, and elders including those with physical and developmental disabilities. The transporter will transport BAIHP staff members as needed for in-home visits, events, collaborative meetings, and other business-related purposes. The Transporter is responsible for vehicle cleanliness, maintenance inspection checks/safety checks, and reporting. While not performing transportation related services, the transporter will assist with general clinic duties such as scheduling/confirming transports, charting patient notes in the Electronic Health Records (EHR) system, contacting clients regularly to assess patients transport needs, completing purchase orders for company related expenditures, and participating in community outreach and engagement.
· Under supervision performs services related to the transportation of supplies and equipment as needed.
· Complete purchase orders.
· Completes records associated with assigned duties including but not limited to documentation associated with the deliveries, client transports, lab and medical records, vehicle safety reports, and disinfecting vehicles regularly.
· Provides COVID-19 transportation services.
· Maintains updated and accurate vehicle logbook records.
· Provides and uses proper PPE.
· Provides training on proper PPE usage to clients as needed.
· Performs basic safety and operational vehicle inspections before and after each trip.
· Documents client transport and other relevant healthcare notes into the EHR.
· Works with clinical staff as needed to provide transportation services.
· Assists with communication and scheduling pick up/drop off vehicles for maintenance and/or repair with vendors.
· Communicates with patients regularly to verify transport and clinic appointments.
· Cleans and disinfects interior and exterior touch points of vehicles and equipment used in transportation.
· Assist with community outreach duties as needed including working events: As a transporter the employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, carry, reach with hands and arms, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, pull and push in and out of the vehicle regularly, and while participating in community events.
· Is responsible for providing safe, timely, and punctual transportation services for patients/clients/staff members, and loading and offloading medical equipment and patient-related items to and from their destination.
· At no time is the transporter allowed or required to assist persons for who they transport in and out of a vehicle or cargo transport vehicle (e.g., trailer, bus, cargo van, etc.).
· Performs other duties as assigned.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $17.00 - $20.00 per hour

Education:
- High school or equivalent (Required)
Experience:
- Medical transportation: 3 years (Preferred)
License/Certification:
- BLS Certification (Preferred)
