Assistant Director, Special Education
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. California Administrative Services Credential
2. Experience, aptitide and knowledge of special education programs
3. Successful teaching experience
4. Master's Degree desireable
5. Ability to evaluate complex issues, recommend appropriate solutions and alternatives, and make timely decisions
6. Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in written form, with District administration, special education staff, community members and parents.
REPORTS TO: Director I - Special Education
FUNCTION: To help provide leadership in developing, coordinating, implementing and evaluating special education programs
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Supports oversight of program implementation of special education programs at school sites
2. Maintains current knowledge of special education laws, regulations, processes and procedures as it applies to maintaining legally compliant services to special education students including monitoring implementation of settlement agreements
3. Regularly visits school sites and conducts walk-through of special education classrooms to assist principals and other administrators in special education instruction
4. Addresses and resolves problems related to special education program implementation at school sites
5. Assists in development, implementation and monitoring of District’s improvement plans for special education
6. Attends interagency meetings, assists with development of interagency agreements and procedures
7. Monitors implementation of differentiated staff development for certificated and classified special education staff
8. Coordinates and monitors implementation of instructional materials in special education classrooms aligned to State Department of Education guidelines
9. Develops and supervises Extended Year (summer school) Program for special education students
10. Assists with budget recommendations and expenditures; completes required District and state reports
11. Coordinates meetings and follow-up contacts with staff, parents and community
12. Performs other duties as assigned
SALARY: $140,570 - $170,088 Annually, 223 days(max salary includes longevity & education stipends)

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Some positions may require proof of privately owned automobile insurance and the possession of a valid California Motor Vehicle operator’s license. Fingerprint clearance by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the California Department of Justice is a condition of appointment after all other required job conditions have been met. Must present verification of completion of Child Abuse Mandated Reporter training or obtain verification within six (6) weeks of hire and annually thereafter, as required by the California Child Abuse Neglect Reporting Act.
