Cost Accountant

Baldwin Paving Company, Inc. is currently seeking a Cost Accountant in our Finance and Administration Department to join our team. This will be a full-time role, reporting to the Controller.  The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 2-3 years of experience with Cost Accounting and a Bachelor’s Degree in either Finance or Accounting.

This position is onsite in our Marietta, GA main office.

SUMMARY / JOB SCOPE

The Cost Accountant will perform advanced cost accounting analyses to compare estimates for all Commercial and Roadwork project costs to actuals and the related projections, update the corresponding WIP schedule and prepare a variety of related budget and ad hoc reports.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Performs quarterly audits and monthly reviews on active projects.
• Review costing results to ensure proper accounting of quantities and cost.
• Coordinates with field personnel regarding possible quantity, billing, or cost discrepancies.
• Analyzes performance of construction projects against their estimates.
• Conducts various analyses of cost and quantities for management.
• Sets up a variety of allocations, budget revisions, and forecasts for management.
• Assists with the preparation and review of Financial Statements.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

REQUIRED SKILLS/ ABILITIES:

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office with strong Excel skills, and Essbase or ability to utilize a similar analytical database software.
• Understanding of accounting procedures, monthly close, project management/construction accounting concepts, and unit costing.
• Excellent analytical and organizational skills, with close attention to detail.
• Ability to work autonomously to manage workload and deliverables, and manage confidential information.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• Minimum two to three years’ experience with cost accounting
• Bachelor’s Degree in Finance/Accounting

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This job operates in a clerical office setting.  The role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and photocopiers.

POSITION TYPE AND EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK

This is a full-time, salaried position. Typical days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. Some flexibility in work hours is allowed, but the employee must be available during the core work hours and must work a minimum of 40 hours per week. Hybrid working opportunities may be available once the employee is acclimated to and able to exhibit effective management of the position’s responsibilities.

No travel is expected for this position.
