Baldwin Youth Services is seeking qualified applicants for the position of House Parent. This posting is for our Wednesday to Friday shift. BYS is a Girls' Group Home located in Silverhill, Alabama serving Baldwin County children.

We are a community based corrections facility so applicant must be able to care for the children in a positive and loving manner while maintaining structure and discipline. Applicant must have a keen ability to work with difficult and challenging children.

Qualifications:

Experience working with youth between the ages of 12-18 is preferred, but not required. Applicant must be at least 21 years of age and possess at least a high school diploma or GED. Applicant must be able to pass a criminal background check once hired. Worker will transport youth in our van, so applicant must possess a valid driver’s license. Many of our youth and/or parents speak English as a second language, so bi-lingual applicants are encouraged.

Applicant must have good communication skills and be able to work well with other staff, juvenile probation officers, family members, and other community service providers in order to assure that the best interests of the children are served. Applicant must be able to engage in a positive, but firm manner with our youth and must be able to balance working independently with working as a member of a team (as you will be one of two house parents for the home) and will be engaging with other staff on a daily basis. Applicant must have basic computer skills, be able to manage minimal paperwork, and be thorough with documentation. Applicant must be organized and able to create and maintain a disciplined and structured environment. Must be a team player and must be teachable.

Job description:

While on shift the house parent will provide care for up to eight girls between the ages of 12-18 who are placed by Juvenile Court for CHINS (Child In Need of Supervision) offenses (truancy, unruly/oppositional behaviors, running away, minor possession of alcohol) in a home-like setting.

Job duties include, but are not limited to: must keep youth in productive activities and provide supervision; cook meals; drive agency van to transport youth to and from school and other various activities; assist youth with school work; administer medications; perform intakes and discharges; enroll new youth in school; shop for groceries; supervise summer activities; communicate with other staff, juvenile probation officers, family members, DHR workers, and other service providers; basic record keeping; create and maintain a disciplined, organized, and structured environment.

There is (1) positions available for the group home. The shift is:

Wednesday starting at 5am to Friday at 5pm.

House parent will have their own private room and bathroom and WILL REMAIN at the home throughout their shift. House parent WILL NOT sleep at the home while not on shift.

This is a salaried position with a generous benefits package. Sick time and personal time are earned on a monthly basis. Position also provides a generous amount of paid holiday time off. House parent will function with some level of autonomy, but reports to executive director and assistant director and works closely with other house parents and other staff to assure that the best interests of the children are served.
