Position Summary
As the Director/Peer Team Leader, you will oversee and support a team of Certified Peer Bridgers who provide peer support services to individuals facing mental health challenges. Your primary responsibility will be to ensure the effective delivery of peer support programs and the professional development of your team members on an ongoing basis. You will provide guidance, supervision, and coordination to ensure the highest quality of care and adherence to organizational standards. You will be responsible for creating program reports and evaluations in a timely manner. You will ensure that the INSET program will be in compliance with policies and protocol within State and Federal regulations. You will collaborate with NYARPS and other System Advocacy Organizations to keep up to date with the Peer Behavioral Health space. Ad-hoc duties may be required in this role. Job description is subject to change. Must be able to work a flexible schedule with evenings and weekends included.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree, with a minimum of two to three years in a supervisory role.
- New York State Certified Peer Specialists certification (Active) - or must be Certified within 6 months of hiring. You are required to maintain your certification through continuing education courses and events.
- Strong understanding of mental health challenges, recovery-oriented approaches, and the principles of peer support. Familiarity with evidence-based interventions and current trends in trauma informed mental health care and substance abuse systems.
- Proven ability to provide effective supervision, coaching, and mentorship to a team of professionals. Strong leadership and team-building skills to foster a positive and collaborativework environment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including active listening, conflict resolution,and interpersonal skills. Ability to communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders, includingprogram participants, staff members, and external partners.
- Demonstrate knowledge of advocacy, self-help, and empowerment programs for recipients ofmental health and substance abuse services.
- Ability to be a role model and convey a message of hope and wellness for people diagnosed withmental illness and working peer staff.
- Strong organizational and time management skills to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines,and ensure the smooth operation of programs and services.
- Understanding of professional boundaries, ethical guidelines, and confidentiality requirementswhen working with individuals facing mental health challenges.
- Ability to collaborate and coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, including Behavioral healthprofessionals, social workers, and community organizations.
- Ability to complete competent documentation requirements regarding work activities.
- Experience working in a Crisis Management Model.
- Must have lived experience with the public mental health system.
- Computer Skills: Proficiency in using computer applications and software for documentation, data management, and communication purposes. – knowledge of Foothold Technology’s AWARDS system is a plus.
- The ability to facilitate staff development training and ensure cultural humility/ inclusion.
- Must be available for an On-Call schedule.
- An approved background check is required prior to employment.
