Pay Schedule I, Grade 25, Regular Schedule: 40 hours per week

A vacancy exists in the Department of Corrections.

Under general supervision, coordinates educational, recreational, or administrative programs or treatment and rehabilitative services for the inmate population and/or court-ordered clients.

 Essential Job Duties
  • Assesses client needs and develops an appropriate plan.
  • Screens and interviews defendants for bail review proceedings, and maintains statistical data for same.
  • Completes background investigations, and verifies information provided by defendants.
  • Screens and evaluates defendants for drug, alcohol, and medical histories.
  • Provides intake, assessment, and case management of court-ordered offenders participating in alternative sentencing and community service programs.
  • Monitors and evaluates participation in programs, and provides crisis intervention when needed. 
  • Maintains detailed records of offender's activities, and presents testimony in court and/or provides reports to courts or other agencies upon request.
  • Employs customer service skills with the inmate population and clients, as well as other agencies and the general public.

Required Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in education, physical education, business or public administration, social science, criminal justice, or a closely related field.

Experience described in Examples of Essential Duties may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

Preferred Qualifications
Experience working with an adult offender population
Experience working in a correctional setting

Licenses and Certificates
Possession of a valid driver's license equivalent to a noncommercial, class C Maryland driver's license is required at the time of appointment. All licenses and certifications must be maintained throughout employment.

Proof of Licenses, Certifications and Education
Applicants are required to submit proof of licenses, certifications and education beyond high school to meet the required and preferred qualifications of the position.  Diplomas or transcripts must show the applicant's major field of study.  Copies and unofficial transcripts are acceptable.

Proof of Degree Equivalency

EXAMINATION PROCEDURE 
Applicants will be qualified based on an evaluation of their training and experience, as stated on their application, which includes answers to the supplemental questions. Applicants must state the dates and duties of past and present experience clearly and completely for evaluation purposes.

Employees in this classification are required to work nights, evenings, weekends and holidays as needed.

Employees must attend and satisfactorily complete the requirements for certification, as dictated by the Maryland Correctional Training Commission, within one year of appointment.

Employees must pass re-training requirements as mandated throughout employment.

Character Requirements
All applicants must be of good moral character and emotionally stable, as determined by a comprehensive background investigation and test for drug use.

Physical and Environmental Conditions

The work of this classification entails some physical labor including walking throughout a correctional facility, and some lifting and carrying of items.

Medical Examination and Employment Background Investigation
Applicants selected for employment with Baltimore County must successfully complete a physical examination, drug screening and employment investigation, including, but not limited to criminal background, education certification and fingerprinting checks.

Salary : $50,255 - $55,062
