Baptist Health is looking for a Genetic Counseling Assistant to join our team in Lexington, KY
The Genetic Counseling Assistant provides specialized support to the genetic counselors. The GCA is an integral part of the Genetics team and contributes to the management of diverse aspects of the service, including the coordination of care for patients, optimization of clinic and operational workflows, and working collaboratively with the team to create a patient-centered and administratively effective environment. GCA will assist with clinical case preparation, obtain family histories, help facilitate genetic testing and track clinical test results. The GCA will ensure that patient charts are prepared for clinic. Additionally, the GCA will assist in placing calls to patients/primary care physicians/subspecialists to request records and confirm appointments, and assist the genetic counselors with triaging incoming requests from patients and providers. GCA will ensure that insurance approval is obtained for any laboratory studies, and respond to insurance and laboratory requests for supporting records. GCA will complete lab requisitions for genetic testing, print and send clinical information for laboratory testing. Coordinate and provide instructions for patient lab draws. Contact laboratories with general inquiries such as status of patient results. At times, this role will schedule and register patients for appropriate clinic and maintain complex outpatient schedules. Additional duties as assigned by genetic counselors. Interest in the field of genetic counseling is preferred.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's Degree in a biological/health science; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge of genetics and genetic concept and medical terminology.
Strong computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office software, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Experience with EPIC system.
