The Medical Review Officer Assistant is an individual who assists the Medical Review Officer, Clients, Staff Members and patients by processing, verifying and reporting of drug test results. The Medical Review Officer Assistant functions as a member of the healthcare team demonstrating knowledge in drug screen collection and breath alcohol collections.
Principle Duties And Responsibilities:
The following is a summary of the major functions of this individual’s job. He or she may perform other duties, both major and minor, which are not mentioned below, and specific functions may change from time to time.
- Perform drug and alcohol testing collections when requested.
- Must be proficient in DOT procedural regulations when collecting drug screens and performing breathe alcohol tests.
- Processes drug and alcohol test results.
- Collects data on all positive drug test results, with the exception of collection only tests.
- Reports all positive drug test results to the Medical Review Officer after data is collected.
- Maintains appropriate records on all drug tests.
- Performs drug screen collections off-site.
- Maintains a good working relationship with all clients.
- Holds in confidence all matters concerning patients and results.
- Exhibits friendly and helpful behavior.
- Assists in clerical duties related to the operation of the office, such as answering phone, filing of drug test results, and call backs to client/company representatives.
- May also be cross-trained in back office clinical responsibilities.
Minimum Training And Education:
High School Diploma or equivalent
Medical field interacting with patients
Patient communication working with sensitive subject matter
Certifications And Experience ( Must be willing to acquire):
Department of Transportation Collection Certification
Breath Alcohol Technician Certification
On-the-job training of the Medical Review Officers data collection process
Skills And Abilities Required:
Excellent communication and organizational skills
Working professional computer skills
Maintain ethical standards of conduct
Will train on the job for any of the above requirements.
Must be available for after hours on-call rotation.
