What are the responsibilities and job description for the Technical Manager position at Barentz?

The Technical Manager’s primary responsibilities include providing technical support and expertise to customers within a designated geographic area, as well as cross-functional internal teams and departments. The Technical Manager will focus on products identified in the assigned division and plays a critical role in building strong customer relationships by supporting both the customer and the commercial team, resulting in making Barentz Always a better solution.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Technical Support & Troubleshooting

• Deliver technical assistance to clients regarding product applications, troubleshooting, and formulation optimization

• Develop and lead technical application discussions with customer technical and operations groups, as well as sales teams using the various technical information tools available

• Recommend formulation process selection, based on Barentz objectives and customer’s own targets

• Provide on-site and remote technical support to divisional customers and build strong relationships

• Assist with troubleshooting formulation and manufacturing issues

• Drive technical projects with customers on site at Barentz, as well as the technical service laboratories of our principals/ suppliers

• Prepare technical reports, presentations, and documentation for internal and external use

• Use of BRM/CRM software tools to create or modify opportunities and tasks, respond to inquiries, update project pipeline database, and capture notes of key customer and principal interactions


Training & Education:

• Prepare and present technical information (oral and written) for both internal and external training seminars and workshops and product promotion events

• Partner with sales team to conduct educational sessions at customer facilities

• Educate clients on new products and best practices for using products represented by the Barentz portfolio


Leadership/ Teamwork

• Collaborate with Barentz principal management (product managers) and sales leadership to support new product introductions and commercialization

• Work closely with sales, marketing, and regulatory teams to ensure customer satisfaction and compliance

• Partner with VP of Sales to manage sales pipeline activity and drive projects to closure with the correct technical solution

• Partner with principal management to develop product strategies with specific principals

• Liaise with principals’ technical counterparts to discuss customer project activities and coordinate joint technical meetings with customers

• Travel to customers’ R&D and manufacturing sites to promote, support, and encourage principals’ products and Barentz concept

• Present plans and strategies to executive teams at Barentz locations

• Communicate with others throughout the organization to stay up to date on customers and trends

Continuous Improvement/Problem Solving


Market & Technical Intelligence

• Stay updated on industry trends, competitor products, and regulatory changes.

• Provide feedback to internal teams to guide product development and innovation.

• Explore AI tools to leverage past learning and speed solutions to customers.

• Collaborate with market communications and marketing to develop sales tools & marketing collateral (one-pagers, sell sheets, sales support materials, FAB presentations, etc.)

• Ensure adherence to all applicable facility requirements, certifications and designations

• Contribute to and support continuous improvement of our processes and systems

• Seek opportunities to share best practices with the team, support staff and other divisions

Systems

• Barentz specific systems, including but not limited to BRM, Vizion, Datacor, Sharepoint, etc.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Education

• Master’s degree in relevant scientific discipline (i.e., Industrial Pharmacy/Pharmaceutics, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or other sciences) (required)

• PhD, depending on discipline (preferred)

Experience

• Minimum 10 years’ experience in discipline-specific formulation or technical service with an emphasis in formulation development (required)

• Experience in giving strong technical presentations at an academic or industry forum (required)

Certifications

• Any industry related certification (i.e., Sales Techniques, Project Management, Regulatory, Quality Management, etc.) (preferred/encouraged)

Position/Product/Industry Requirements

• Experience using industry related technologies and equipment


SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

• Self-motivated, high energy, and engaging level of enthusiasm and positive outlook

• Ability and desire to develop meaningful/productive business relationships at all levels

• Effective written and verbal communication skills and the ability to adapt communication style to the audience as needed

• Software knowledge of Microsoft Office including Outlook, Word, Excel, Microsoft Dynamics and Power Point

• Must be able to effectively prioritize work assignments for self and others

• Possess demonstrated exceptional organizational, presentation, negotiation, interpersonal and communication skills, including in-person customer interaction

• Fluent in English, a second language would be considered an asset

• Strong calculation, organizational, and problem-solving skills
