New Pay Grade for 2025! 

Hourly Range: $72.95 USD to $117.05 USD

Summary of Position: 

The Nurse Supervisor – House position provides oversight for multiple hospital departments in the absence of unit management. This position addresses patient care, staffing, and any other issues that may arise. They supervise employees and take administrative responsibilities and ensure adequate staffing for the oncoming shift. This position addresses employee and patient incidents during the shift, ensuring appropriate communication and follow-up is completed. The Nurse Supervisor - House is the Administrator on duty after hours and determines the issues to be referred to the Administrator on call. The Nurse Supervisor - House manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs and communicates with the employee’s department leader. The Nurse Supervisor - House facilitates patient care among several hospital departments, working collaboratively with physicians and multidisciplinary team members. 

Qualifications

Education:

● Completion of an accredited Nursing program. 

● Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred.

Experience:

● Minimum two years recent experience in critical care departments or similar setting.

● Minimum two years recent supervisory experience preferred.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

● Knowledge of nursing practices in designated department. 

● Highly effective written and verbal communications skills. 

● Proficient computer skills as are required to document, communicate and enter information into the electronic medical records system.

● Strong people skills including the ability to recruit and train volunteers. 

● Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and ability to work with minimal supervision.

● Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

● Ability to collaborate with various departments in and outside of the Barton Health System in order to provide consistently exceptional patient care. 

● Attention to detail, meticulous development and maintenance of regulatory paperwork

Certifications/Licensure:

● Current California RN license or ability to obtain prior to start date.

● Current CPR/BLS certification by the American Heart Association (BLS for the Healthcare Provider) or ability to obtain prior to start date.

● Current ACLS, PALS and certifications prior to start date.

Essential Functions

1. Provides consistently exceptional care at all times. 

2. Accomplishes nursing human resource objectives by selecting, orienting, training, assigning, scheduling, coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring, appraising job contributions; recommending compensation actions; adhering to policies and procedures.

3. Meets nursing operational standards by contributing information to strategic plans and reviews; implementing production, productivity, quality, and customer-service standards; resolving problems; identifying system improvements.

4. Identifies patient service requirements by establishing personal rapport with potential and actual patients and other persons in a position to understand service requirements.

5. Maintains nursing guidelines by writing and updating policies and procedures.

6. Assures quality of care by developing and interpreting hospital and nursing division's philosophies and standards of care; enforcing adherence to state board of nursing and state nurse practice act requirements and to other governing agency regulations; measuring health outcomes against standards; making or recommending adjustments.

7. Completes patient care requirements by scheduling and assigning nursing and staff; following up on work results.

8. Establishes a compassionate environment by providing emotional, psychological, and spiritual support to patients, friends, and families.

9. Promotes patient's independence by establishing patient care goals; teaching and counseling patient, friends, and family and reinforcing their understanding of disease, medications, and self-care skills.

10. Provides information to patients and health care team by answering questions and requests.

11. Resolves patient needs by utilizing multidisciplinary team strategies.

12. Maintains safe and clean working environment by designing and implementing procedures, rules, and regulations; calling for assistance from other health care professionals.

13. Protects patients and employees by developing and interpreting infection-control policies and protocols; enforcing medication administration, storage procedures, and controlled substance regulations.

14. Maintains patient confidence and protects operations by monitoring confidential information processing.

15. Maintains documentation of patient care services by auditing patient and department records.

16. Ensures operation of medical and administrative equipment by verifying emergency equipment availability; completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs; maintaining equipment inventories; evaluating new equipment and techniques.

17. Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.

18. Maintains a cooperative relationship among health care teams by communicating information; responding to requests; building rapport; participating in team problem-solving methods.

19. Accomplishes organizational goals by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.

20. Responds to the needs of the department by performing other duties, as necessary
