As a Geismar Site Controller, you will be responsible for,


COST

  • Responsible for cost accounting at BASF’s Geismar manufacturing site (Verbund – integrated, multi-business), complying with relevant accounting standards (local and BASF). Ensure that adequate internal controls are maintained so that inventories, M&E and other company assets are protected during all phases of plant operations.
    Establish regular site performance forecasts, forecast deviation analysis, annual budgets, and mid-term financial plans, also for capital expenditures. Keep a comprehensive risk management updated and trigger counter measures if appropriate.
  • Drive efficiency initiatives to improve cost competitiveness and site reliability by valuating respective measures, applying for project funding and regular measure tracking. Benchmarks are an integral part of those initiatives.

SUISTANABLE GROWTH

  • Accompany growth and reliability projects at site: understand impact on site structure, evaluate implications and alternatives, review with technical experts required subsequent steps for implementation and its impact on P&L / balance sheet
  • Support Implementation of sustainability measures to reduce CO2 footprint at BASF in Geismar from financial perspective: from green electricity about mass balance to Carbon Capture Storage (CCS) projects.
  • Create value with their integration in product costing and its product carbon footprint while considering most profitable allocation of CO2 reductions to product lines / customer demand.
  • Extract value for Geismar site with co-location of 3rd party or JV partners. Take responsibility for negotiating service level agreements (supplying utilities, infrastructure, receiving back utilities) based on a thorough assessment
  • Responsible for supporting the development of service level agreements (SLA) for co-locations by partnering with the Site Development and Site Services teams while also ensuring the SLA is in the best interest of BASF and Geismar.

LEADERSHIP

  • Be integral part of the Site Leadership Team and provide strategic financial counsel and support to Geismar’s SVP/General Manager
  • Lead Geismar controlling team by setting the right priorities and expectations, while transforming from accounting to a controlling focus.
  • Gain efficiencies through automation and digitalization (plug and play global available tools and / or develop regional solutions if needed) through excellent change management and buy-in of all stakeholders at site and beyond
  • Responsible for succession planning of the team, including review of North America team to identify and implement development needs (e.g., job enrichment / rotation, training, and up-skilling)
  • Guide and support the site controlling community across 140 sites in North America

Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent

Qualifications


Education

  • Bachelor's Degree from accredited college or university in Accounting or Finance; or MBA required

Experience

  • Minimum 7 years of experience in Site, Business or Corporate Accounting

Knowledge/Skills

  • Knowledge and understanding of General Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), International Finance Reporting Standards (IFRS), and internal control techniques.
  • Knowledge of management reporting and systems to assess P&L and balance sheet developments (preferably BASF tools such as COBALT, MARIS, COBUS, OCEAN)
  • Ability to interpret, communicate and apply company policy in a Multi-BU/Verbund site environment.
  • Ability to make decisions on complex situations, involving the appropriate level of experts / management, understanding the risks and being accountable and responsible.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and through presentations with all levels in the organization.
  • Must have a safety mind-set and acts responsible towards our environment to drive our site into a sustainable future.
  • Must be able to coach, direct, lead and motivate teams and others to ensure the accurate and timely completion of project assignments.
  • Must have the skills, training, and motivation necessary to work independently to accomplish objectives.
  • Must have the business acumen to drive or support an environment of continuous improvement.
  • Must have the ability to ensure process efficiency to capture value through automatization / digitalization.
