Overview
Baumann Engineering has manufactured sophisticated, precision tight tolerance machined parts for the aerospace industry for more than 50 years. In the 1960’s our parts were on the Apollo Spacecraft, and today you will find our connectors on the ORION Mission to Mars. We are family owned, AS9100D Certified, and located in Claremont.
We are looking for a Tool and Die Maker responsible for designing, building, repairing, and maintaining a variety of precision tools, dies, jigs, fixtures, and gauges used in the manufacturing process. This position requires a high level of craftsmanship, precision machining skills, and knowledge of shop math and materials.
Duties:
- Using lathes, milling machines, grinders, and other equipment to shape and fabricate metal and other materials
- Constructing, repairing, and maintaining tools and dies:
- Ensuring tools and dies meet strict tolerances and quality standards.
- Fit and assemble parts to make and repair dies, cutting tools, jigs, and fixtures.
- Perform hand finishing and surface grinding to exact tolerances.
- Troubleshoot tooling problems on the shop floor and perform corrective action.
- Maintain and modify existing tools and dies to meet production or engineering changes.
- Perform preventive maintenance on tooling and related equipment.
- Collaborate with engineers and production staff to improve manufacturing processes.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment in accordance with company policies and OSHA standards.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED required; technical training or apprenticeship certification preferred.
- 5 years of experience in tool and die making, preferably in a stamping or molding environment.
- Strong knowledge of metal properties, machining techniques, and tool design.
- Ability to read and interpret complex blueprints and technical drawings.
- Proficiency in using hand tools, machine tools, and precision measuring instruments.
- Experience with CAD/CAM software and CNC programming is a plus.
- Excellent problem-solving and attention-to-detail skills.
