The Director of Surgical Services directs and supervises functions and activities in the Surgery Department; implements and interprets policies, procedures, standards, and regulations for personnel, patients, medical staff and the public; ensures compliance with Joint Commission standards.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Oversee development of Surgery Department goals and objectives.
- In collaboration with the CNO, oversees the department’s budgets and ensures that the departments operate within that budget.
- Prepares periodic reports for the CNO relating to departmental objectives and performances.
- Develops policies and procedures designed to ensure appropriate and cooperative functioning within the nursing department.
- Prepares work schedules, assigns personnel, evaluates work performance and makes recommendations for personnel actions.
- Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, performance improvement activates, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
- Directs patient care when needed, evaluates outcomes, consults with other specialties as required and adjusts nursing care processes as indicated to ensure optimal patient care.
- Adjusts staffing to meet needs and provide for adequate coverage of the unit.
- Bachelor’s degree in nursing
- At least two (2) years of clinical experience in area of specialty with proven managerial skills in nursing.
- Valid Registered Nurse license in the state of Louisiana.
- Valid B.C.L.S and A.C.L.S. within six (6) months of hire.
- Unit Competence completed within six (6) month of hire and annually thereafter.
