The Payroll Manager will oversee and supervise the organization’s payroll functions, ensuring pay is processed on time, accurately, and in compliance with government regulations for both U.S. and Canadian employees. This is a working manager position, with the payroll manager having primary responsibility for producing a semi-monthly payroll for approximately 1000 employees. Additional supervisory duties will be added as the payroll staff increases; the company is on track to reach 2000 employees through periodic acquisition over the next two years.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Implements, maintains, and reviews payroll processing systems to ensure timely and accurate processing of payroll transactions including salaries, benefits, garnishments, taxes, and other deductions.
  • Ensures accurate and timely processing of payroll updates including new hires, terminations, Records of Employment and changes to pay rates.
  • Prepares and maintains accurate records and reports of payroll transactions.
  • Ensures compliance with federal, state/provincial, and local payroll, wage, and hour laws and best practices.
  • Facilitates audits by providing records and documentation to auditors.
  • Identifies and recommends updates to payroll processing systems and procedures.
  • Manages the General Ledger report and ensures that all payroll related items post correctly.
  • Responsible for a third- party vendor who manages the governmental leave programs and ensures that payroll and benefits are tracked when an employee is on leave.
  • Monitors tax reporting by third-party vendor to ensure timely tax payments.
  • Completes UI case management activities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS


  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Human Resources, or related field required.
  • Extensive knowledge of the payroll function including preparation, balancing, internal control, and payroll taxes.
  • 5+ years of related experience required.
  • Must have excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Must have strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Must possess strong supervisory and leadership skills.
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Must be proficient with payroll software.
  • Experience processing Canadian payroll required.
  • Experience with Paycom HRIS a plus.
  • Must be able to sit at a desk for prolonged periods working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
  • Background checks part of the hiring process, which may include a Motor Vehicle check.
