Animal Services Technician Intern

JOB SUMMARY

The Animal Services Technician Intern provides care to the animals at the Animal Shelter. Responsibilities include: cleaning kennels, cages, floors, and common areas; feeding, bathing, medicating, and socializing animals; assessing the general physical condition of incoming animals; assisting in determining an animal’s immediate needs; and evaluating animal behavior. Participate in learning activities and receive guidance under the direct supervision of the Animal Services Intern Supervisor to develop skills in animal care and shelter operations.

• Observes animals to determine health, eating habits, and behavioral issues; assesses the general physical condition of incoming animals; and assists in determining the animal’s immediate needs.
• Performs animal care duties, which includes: feeding, and watering animals; monitoring animals for illness, disease, or injury; socializing animals; and performing other related activities. Observes the administration of medications and vaccines to animals.
• Cleans and disinfects animal holding areas; monitors the security of facilities.
• Prepares and maintains a variety of files, records, reports, logs, or other related information.
• Performs other related duties of a similar nature or level.  

Education and Experience:

Must be a currently enrolled student in a high school or college program.

Special Requirements: 

Must be at least 16 years of age.
