What are the responsibilities and job description for the Human Services Specialist position at Beaufort County South Carolina?
The Human Services Specialist supports clients by identifying community services and resources and providing specialized information regarding clients' needs. Responsibilities include: planning and administering programs; overseeing caseloads of assigned employees; ensuring compliance with state and County guidelines; conducting assessment; providing general counseling; providing information to participants; reviewing information for eligibility; coordinating the collection and maintenance of related files; identifying problems and providing solutions; supporting residents with daily living skills; scheduling medical appointments; transporting residents for appointments and community activities; and maintaining client documentations.
- Reviews social service applications for completeness and eligibility; transfers cases to appropriate individuals; inputs case information into databases; and gathers and validates personal and financial information.
- Oversees caseloads and ESPs of assigned employees; provides training; reviews timesheets and schedules; monitors productivity; provides guidance; and makes sure they have equipment and supplies needed.
- Facilitates compliance with state and County guidelines.
- Provides referrals to interested parties, which includes: identifying customer needs; completing mandatory referrals; making discretionary referrals; and performing other related activities.
- Accepts and processes appeal requests from clients; completes overturned appeals received from the state; reviews case files to determine client’s eligibility factors; and contacts customers to notify them of appeal findings.
- Provides assistance to individuals living in a residential house, which includes: providing program information; responding to inquiries; screening; making appointments and referrals; conducting assessments; and documenting behaviors, medical incidents, and unusual incidents.
- Plans activities and outings.
- Responds to issues with vendors or service providers; ensures compliance with and payment of contracts.
- Maintains and updates system related information.
- Ensures compliance with licensing requirements of Day Program (if applicable).
- Inspects and maintains assigned vehicles.
- Conducts trainings.
- Collaborates with other agencies and organizations.
- Maintains records; prepares and disseminates a variety of reports related to department activities.
- Performs other related duties of a similar nature or level.
- Requires an Associate degree or two-year technical certificate in Criminal Justice, Sociology, Social Work, or related area.
- Two (2) years of related work experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Valid driver’s license
- Certifications desired: CPR
