PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Assist teacher in preparation and management of classroom activities and administrative requirements. Work under supervision of certified teacher.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:
- High school diploma or GED
- Valid Texas educational aide certificate
- NCLB Criteria (2 years of study at an institution of higher education; an Associate Degree or higher; or can pass a formal academic paraprofessional assessment)
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Ability to work well with others; ability to communicate effectively
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
- Knowledge of general office equipment
- Ability to communicate effectively
- Technically savvy and willingness to regularly communicate using mobile devices
- Ability to meet multiple demands from several people/sources.
Experience:
- Two years working with children, educational environment, preferred
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Instructional Management
- Assist teacher in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays.
- Assist with administration and scoring of objective testing instruments or work assignments.
- Help maintain a neat and orderly classroom.
- Help with inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment.
- Help teacher keep administrative records and prepare required reports.
- Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers
- Help students set up on their computers/devices so they can work with instructors online
- Maintain records and paperwork as needed. This includes taking student attendance, grading Elevate worksheets, and entering grades into the grade book.
- Work closely with school to ensure everything is set up for the Elevate classroom.
Student Management
- Conduct instructional exercises assigned by the teacher; work with individual students or small groups
- Help supervise students throughout school day, inside and outside classroom. This includes lunchroom, bus, and playground duty.
- Keep teacher informed of special needs or problems of individual students.
- Manage the in classroom behavior while supporting the online instruction
- Expected to interact/communicate with the instructor prior to the first session of the day to discuss lesson plan and is expected to interact with the instructor whenever necessary
- Perform emergency tasks and procedures in the classroom as needed and directed per school and Elevate policies.
- Be a mentor and leader to students.
Other
- Attend Elevate preparation sessions, seminars, and in-services as needed to improve knowledge and skills and to keep current with the latest in services equipment, material, and functions, as it pertains to Elevate K-12’s needs
- Participate in staff development training programs to improve job performance
- Participate in faculty meeting and special events as assigned.
- Displays high levels of personal and professional integrity
- Perform other duties as assigned.

- Possible biological exposure to bacteria and communicable diseases; specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus; frequent light lifting and carrying (under 15 pounds); occasional moderate lifting and carrying (15-44 pounds).
**The State Board for Educator Certification will require all first-time applicants for an initial credential to be fingerprinted as part of a national criminal background check. A cost of up to $49. 00 will be charged for fingerprinting.
