PRIMARY PURPOSE:

 

Assist teacher in preparation and management of classroom activities and administrative requirements. Work under supervision of certified teacher.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Education/Certification:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Valid Texas educational aide certificate
  • NCLB Criteria (2 years of study at an institution of higher education; an Associate Degree or higher; or can pass a formal academic paraprofessional assessment)

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Ability to work well with others; ability to communicate effectively
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
  • Knowledge of general office equipment
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Technically savvy and willingness to regularly communicate using mobile devices
  • Ability to meet multiple demands from several people/sources.

Experience:

  • Two years working with children, educational environment, preferred

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

 

Instructional Management

  1. Assist teacher in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays.
  2. Assist with administration and scoring of objective testing instruments or work assignments.
  3. Help maintain a neat and orderly classroom.
  4. Help with inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment.
  5. Help teacher keep administrative records and prepare required reports.
  6. Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers
  7. Help students set up on their computers/devices so they can work with instructors online
  8. Maintain records and paperwork as needed. This includes taking student attendance, grading Elevate worksheets, and entering grades into the grade book.
  9. Work closely with school to ensure everything is set up for the Elevate classroom.

 

Student Management

  1. Conduct instructional exercises assigned by the teacher; work with individual students or small groups
  2. Help supervise students throughout school day, inside and outside classroom. This includes lunchroom, bus, and playground duty.
  3. Keep teacher informed of special needs or problems of individual students.
  4. Manage the in classroom behavior while supporting the online instruction
  5. Expected to interact/communicate with the instructor prior to the first session of the day to discuss lesson plan and is expected to interact with the instructor whenever necessary
  6. Perform emergency tasks and procedures in the classroom as needed and directed per school and Elevate policies.
  7. Be a mentor and leader to students.

Other

  1. Attend Elevate preparation sessions, seminars, and in-services as needed to improve knowledge and skills and to keep current with the latest in services equipment, material, and functions, as it pertains to Elevate K-12’s needs
  2. Participate in staff development training programs to improve job performance
  3. Participate in faculty meeting and special events as assigned.
  4. Displays high levels of personal and professional integrity
  5. Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Coordinate district-wide curriculum functions; interpret policy, procedures, and data
  • Work with frequent interruptions

Physical/Environmental Demands

  • Frequent standing, walking, stooping, bending, kneeling, pulling, pushing, lifting, carrying; moving small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom equipment; repetitive hand motions; prolonged use of computer terminal possible
  • Occasional district-wide travel; occasional state-wide travel;
  • Frequent prolonged and irregular hours
  • Possible biological exposure to bacteria and communicable diseases; specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus; frequent light lifting and carrying (under 15 pounds); occasional moderate lifting and carrying (15-44 pounds).

 

**The State Board for Educator Certification will require all first-time applicants for an initial credential to be fingerprinted as part of a national criminal background check. A cost of up to $49. 00 will be charged for fingerprinting.
