Job Overview:
The Registered Nurse (RN) in Surgery plays a crucial role in providing comprehensive nursing care for surgical patients, working closely with healthcare staff to ensure seamless coordination and efficient management of departmental supplies and equipment.
Responsibilities:
- Prioritizes and coordinates the delivery of high-quality nursing care to a specific patient population
- Assesses, plans, implements and evaluates individualized patient care, ensuring alignment with established standards and protocols
- Supervises and makes assignments for LPNs, ORTs/CSTs, and Nursing Assistants, reviewing work for accuracy and providing constructive feedback
- Prepares and administers medications as ordered, supervising the administration of medications supplied to the sterile field to maintain a safe environment
- Maintains accurate record keeping by completion of all documentation, including charge mechanisms and transfer of information to specified locations
- Ensures the department is prepared for patient care at all times, adhering to established policies and procedures
- Fosters a culture of safety by following and enforcing safety policies and infection control procedures
- Responds promptly to emergency situations, utilizing critical thinking skills to make informed decisions
Requirements:
- Currently registered in the State of Virginia or eligible for licensure
- Demonstrates at least six months of clinical related nursing experience
