What are the responsibilities and job description for the Food Service/Research Staff position at Beck's Superior Hybrids?
This position is responsible for the daily operation of the Olivia location cafeteria and dining area. Work involves preparing the appropriate quantities of food to serve meals and beverages to employees. Duties of this position make routine decisions as to the way work is to be performed. This job is a seasonal, part time position in the Research Department working in the seed lab and/or in corn breeding nursery and isolated crossing blocks. This position reports to a Manager, Associate or Assistant-Level employee.
Responsibilities
- Assist with hand-pollinating Beck’s summer and/or winter corn breeding nursery.
- Assist with shelling, processing and packaging of seed.
- Assist with hand-harvest of Beck’s summer and/or winter corn breeding nursery and/or crossing blocks.
- Maintain positive attitude and strong work ethic in order to work well within a team.
- Assist with other duties as required by the assigned supervisor.
- Select and plan daily menus.
- Ensure that food items are stored in safe and hazard-free environment.
- Maintain food production inventory.
- Purchase and receive stock food items.
- Organize and prepare all parts of the meal.
- Operate dishwasher to clean dishes, utensils, glasses, cups, trays and other items.
- Hand wash pots, pans, coffee holders.
- Inspect premises in order to maintain health, safety and sanitation levels throughout the kitchen and dining areas.
- Perform routine maintenance and upkeep in the cafeteria kitchen and dining room.
- Defrost freezer, clean and disinfect refrigerators, coolers and freezers.
- Disinfect tables, chairs, stoves, ovens, hoods, mixers, blenders and other kitchen equipment.
- Wash, dry, and fold kitchen towels and dish rags.
Job Requirements
Education and training:
- Successful completion of Beck’s safety training program
- This is a safety-sensitive position.
Technical knowledge:
- Basic computer and current software skills.
- Working knowledge of kitchen equipment.
- Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to work without close supervision.
- Hardworking.
- Possess a positive attitude.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to work independently and as a team member.
- Ability to operate a research combine (training provided).
- Ability to operate computers (training provided).
Physical Demands:
- Must have transportation to and from work facility.
- Ability to work five (5) to six (6) days each week.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time.
- Ability to work in all weather conditions.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds frequently.
- Tolerate exposure to corn pollen.
