Reports to:
Athletic Director / Head Boys' Soccer Coach


Job Summary
: To provide effective adult supervision, guidance in the development of required skills, and a positive exemplar of adult behavior to students-athletes. To support the head coach in the development of the Beech Grove High School Boys' Soccer Program.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities :


1. In conjunction with the head coach, help guide the boys' soccer program within the guidelines, rules, and policies established by the athletic department, the school, the conference and the IHSAA.

2. Adhere to a highly efficient and technically sound program of injury prevention and follow up.

3. Ensure own regular and prompt attendance at practices, events, and contests.

4. Supervise athletes and students until released to parents, guardians per school guidelines.

5. Assume direct responsibility for the development, coordination and supervision of the boys' soccer program grades K-12.

6. Assist the head coach in developing and implementing effective procedures for the try out and selection of team members in a manner that provides equal opportunity and fair criteria for selection.

7. Assist the head coach to insure that all students trying out for a team has necessary forms and applications on file prior to the beginning of practice including the following:

  • Current physical examination
  • Parent consent
  • Family or school insurance
  • Academic eligibility clearance
  • Athletic Transfer clearance
  • Owl card forms

8. Assist the head coach in establishing written standards of conduct for team members and managers including the topics listed below, and take steps to insure that all participants understand the importance of the rules in the context of team goals, commitment, and integrity.

9. Assist the head coach in imposing sanctions on, and discipline players who do not adhere to the team rules and regulations.

10. Take appropriate actions to insure that parents of participants are informed of the rules and standards of conduct, the role they are expected to play, and procedures to follow to arrange for a conference with a member of the coaching staff.

11. Assist the head coach in developing and implement effective procedures for the supervision and control of student athletes at practices and scheduled events, including severe weather plans, injury protocol, and concussion protocol.

12. Insure that the welfare of the student is the highest priority in the response and treatment of athletic injuries.

13. Cooperate with the recommendation and decisions of the parent/guardian and athletic trainer regarding the rehabilitation of injured athletes including:

  • Determining the type of treatment.
  • Determining the length of treatment.
  • Scheduling treatment.
  • The use of rehabilitation equipment.
  • Responsibility for supervising the student during treatments involving heat lamps, moist heat packs, whirlpool and rehabilitation equipment.

14. Assist the head coach in developing and implement effective procedures for distributing and accounting for uniforms, maintaining equipment and annual inventories.

15. Assume direct responsibility for securing equipment, locker rooms, offices (and, when appropriate, the outside entrances to facilities) at the conclusion of practice and contests.

16. Assist the head coach in developing and implementing effective procedures for keeping track of team and individual statistics, individual award winners and special awards.

17. Attend all regularly scheduled meetings and called meetings of head coaches

18. Lead by example by exemplifying good moral conduct.


Qualifications
:


  • Past coaching experience preferred but not required
  • Past playing experience preferred but not required
