Job Summary
We are seeking a compassionate, reliable, and motivated Direct Support Professional / Community Support Specialist to support teens and adults with developmental disabilities in home and community settings. This role focuses on building independence, life skills, and confidence through individualized, person-centered support. Staff work one-on-one with clients to help them navigate daily routines, community activities, social situations, and personal goals in a respectful and empowering way.

Responsibilities
- Support individuals with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) and Independent Living Skills, such as personal care routines, hygiene, organization, and household tasks (as appropriate to the client’s goals)
- Assist clients with community integration, including errands, appointments, recreation, volunteering, or social activities
- Support skill development related to time management, communication, self-advocacy, emotional regulation, and problem-solving
- Implement individualized support plans and strategies developed by supervisors or care teams
- Observe and document client progress, challenges, and relevant behaviors in a clear and timely manner
- Provide encouragement, structure, and coaching to promote independence rather than doing tasks for clients
- Support clients in navigating real-world situations (e.g., public transportation, shopping, dining out, workplace or school supports)
- Maintain a safe, respectful, and supportive environment in both home and community settings
- Communicate professionally with supervisors, families, and collaborating providers as needed
- Respond appropriately to challenging situations using de-escalation strategies and support techniques
- Follow all confidentiality and ethical guidelines, including HIPAA compliance
Experience & Qualifications
- Prior experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities, autism, or related support needs is highly preferred
- Experience in community-based services, independent living support (ILS), social skills coaching, behavioral support, or caregiving roles is a plus
- Strong communication skills, patience, flexibility, and emotional intelligence
- Ability to work independently while following support plans and guidelines
- Comfort supporting clients in real-world community environments
- CPR/First Aid certification preferred (or willingness to obtain)
- Reliable transportation and ability to travel locally between clients
- Backgrounds in psychology, education, social work, human services, or related fields are encouraged but not required
- A genuine passion for empowering individuals to live meaningful, self-directed lives
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $25.00 - $30.00 per hour
