What are the responsibilities and job description for the Extension Assistant position at Beltrami County?
Performs intermediate skilled administrative support work providing general office management and coordination of programs for the University of Minnesota Extension, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the moderate supervision of the Regional Director.
Preferred hiring salary range is $21.26 to $23.23 per hour with a full range of $21.26 to $26.92 per hour. Placement depends on factors such as qualifications, internal equity, market conditions, and applicable policy guidelines.
Education and ExperienceMinimum Qualifications are:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- One year or more of related work experience in clerical, bookkeeping, administration, or behavioral science.
- Valid MN driver’s license.

Essential Functions
- Provides general administrative and clerical support for Extension Office programs; accesses and distributes information from the University of Minnesota Extension for resource and referral; prepares and codes invoices; submits for approval; tracks budget status reports; schedules and coordinates volunteers for Extension programs.
- Provides clerical and technical support to the 4-H Program; develops brochures, fliers, and program materials; orders supplies; updates website with programming information; registers Fair participants; prepares Fair exhibit information; enters ribbon placement to tracking system; prints premium checks for distribution; prepares and provides requested reports regarding programs and participation.
- Provides clerical support for Extension programs and classes; communicates with program heads regarding processing information for classes, attendees, and schedules; produces program materials; enters participant data to specialized systems or spreadsheets; prepares meeting notices, newsletters, and program booklets.
- Serves as initial point of contact for program participants, instructors, citizens, and elected and appointed officials.
- Participates in trainings and professional development to stay up to date on critical work processes, policies, and practices.
- Operates a vehicle for errands, training, or meetings.
- Extra hours during the county fair season and occasional evening meetings.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Thorough knowledge of departmental programs and policies and terminology; general knowledge of standard office practices, procedures, equipment and office assistance techniques; general knowledge of business English, spelling and arithmetic; ability to communicate ideas effectively in both oral and written forms; ability to gather and give basic information and instructions on departmental programs; ability to read and understand moderately detailed policies, procedures and job related materials; ability to make arithmetical calculations; ability to operate a variety of office and computer equipment and produce documents and correspondence; ability to follow oral and written directions; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, and the general public.
Physical Requirements
This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 25 pounds of force; work regularly requires sitting, speaking, hearing, using hands and fingers, frequently requires repetitive motions and occasionally requires walking; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data; work has no exposure to environmental conditions; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).
