JOB SUMMARY:
Leads or performs the design of structural elements and systems for a variety of project types, in different industries such as manufacturing, distribution, data centers, commercial, towers, signs, historical, adaptive reuse, and renovations.
Leads or performs analysis of existing structures. Develops drawings or specifications for use during construction and ensures all projects comply with applicable codes and regulations.
Leads as a structural expert for forensic and litigation support projects. Determines cause of structural failures, damages, and defects through site investigations. Develops investigation reports and renovation solutions.
EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:
Candidate may be a specialist or generalist; may serve as the technical specialist or subject matter expert (SME). Serves as a consultant to management on plans and objectives. Specific duties and responsibilities may vary depending on the nature and scope of the project or level of responsibility. Typical responsibilities may be as follows:
- Interacting with clients, attending client, architect, and contractor meetings, reviewing structural documentation, managing, and supervising/mentoring junior staff.
- Preparing design calculations and managing the preparation of the construction documents, reviewing shop drawings and submittals, performing site reviews, and preparing RFI responses.
- Coordinating information across all disciplines to ensure deliverables are compliant with client expectations and Bennett & Pless quality levels.
- Performing QA/QC of work performed by others
- Ability to work in a fast-paced team environment, manage multiple projects, tasks, and deadlines, and bring each to completion.
SUPERVISION:
- Mentors and provides oversight to engineering team.
- If assigned a supervisory role, is responsible for the learning, professional development and growth of the assigned team.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- 15 plus years’ minimum experience in structural engineering.
- Professional license is required.
- Seismic experience is required.
- Experience with industry standard software, including but not limited to Microsoft products, Bentley (RAM) products, RISA, EnerCalc, Adapt, etc.
- Project management experience/ability is required.
- Structural design experience utilizing different construction materials and structural systems; including but not limited to wood, steel, load-bearing light gage steel, concrete, post-tensioned concrete, and masonry design in low to mid-rise structures.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Working knowledge of Revit is preferred
- Client management experience
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Must be a self-starter and always willing to listen, learn and improve.
- Ability to identify applicable codes in project-specific jurisdictions and apply to the project.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written are required.
- Must demonstrate team leadership ability.
