What are the responsibilities and job description for the Academic Advisor position at Berkeley College 2?
Berkeley College is seeking Academic Advisors to work on-site at the New York City Campus. This full-time position is responsible for advising and supporting students regarding their academic progress, the academic requirements of their program, and their registration of courses. Each Academic Advisor has an assigned caseload of students they are responsible for each term. Academic Advisors work closely with faculty and staff to build support systems for students. Academic Advisors report to the Dean, Academic Advisement.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
• Assist students with educational planning by reviewing various academic requirements, to support the student in meeting his/her academic goals
• Ability to interpret the advisement audit and register students in appropriate courses
• Adhere to all Berkeley College’s policies and procedures
• Advocate for student concerns relating to degree plans and processes, and attendance and academic progress issues
• Register new and continuing students each term in the appropriate classes based on skill levels, eligibility, degree program, and academic goals
• Maintain student records and enrollment statuses
• Handle schedule requests and inquiries via e-mail
• Develop, create, and present workshops to promote student success
• Create and maintain student reports
• Maintain contact with students throughout the term and provide support when addressing student concerns
• Contact directly and follow-up on probationary students
Academic Advisors will be expected to:
• work a flexible schedule including evenings and Saturdays
• motivate and inspire students to persistence within term and to degree completion
• solve problems with accuracy, integrity, and timeliness
• coordinate team relations with professional and support staff as well as with other offices and staff across campus.
• follow the strategic initiatives set forth by the Vice President and/or Associate Vice President, Academic Advisement
• attend and complete training workshops and ensure that Academic Advisement Staff participates and completes in a timely manner
Other duties as assigned.
Salary Range: $58,500 - $60,000
Educational Requirements:
• Master’s Degree required in a discipline offered at Berkeley College
Training and/or Experience:
• 2 years of experience in a Higher Education setting
• 2 years of experience working in Academic Advisement
• 2 years of teaching experience in higher education in a discipline/major/course offered at Berkeley College
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
• Proficiency in using technology and programs including, but limited to: Microsoft Office; especially Excel, PeopleSoft, Salesforce, Office365, and Canvas.
