What are the responsibilities and job description for the Account Clerk III position at Berrien County?
DUTIES:
Performs a variety of accounting-related duties, assisting in the maintenance of accurate accounting records according to established guidelines.
Prepares invoices, receipts, deposits and financial reports.
Processes and enters overtime slips/holiday forms for the Sheriff’s Office staff.
Enters daily billing for inmate medical services.
Processes and verifies cash for bonds, transfers funds/closes inmate accounts, and issues checks/debit cards to released inmates.
Collects and processes inmate commissary invoices; sorts and verifies deliveries.
Facilitates, processes, and packs commissary orders for qualified indigent inmates.
Performs Inmate Accounting Clerk’s duties during absences.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or equivalent and a minimum of one and half years bookkeeping or accounting experience.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must pass a pre-employment physical, including a drug screen, as a condition of employment.
Subject to background check and fingerprinting.
The physical ability to lift at least 50 lbs. is essential to the successful performance of job duties.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
Able to prepare accurate financial reports and records in a timely manner.
Organized, with the ability to prepare accurate financial reports and records in a timely manner.
Capable of interacting effectively with department officials, vendors, co-workers, and the general public.
Proficient in the use of standard office equipment and software, including word processing, spreadsheets, and email.
TYPING REQUIREMENT:
Must have a typing speed of 40 words per minute net. If you have not taken a typing test with Berrien County, please contact Personnel by phone or email to schedule one.
