Beverly Farm Foundation is a 125-Year-Old company serving 250 people daily across a beautiful 200 acre campus and locations throughout the rural area of Godfrey, Illinois.  Beverly Farm Foundation creates loving and caring homes offering a dignified quality of life for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.   Services include 24-hour Residential Care, Health and Wellness Services, Applied Behavioral Support Services, Nutrition Services, Dental Services, Community Day Services, Case Management Services, and Periodic Support Services. SUMMARY: Completes all accounting assignments, financial analysis, calculations, postings, and verification of financial data for use in the preparation and maintenance of the general ledgers in a timely manner.  Responsible for the coordination and completion of all government, regulatory, and compliance documents for all business units in Beverly Farm Foundation, including all affiliates. Prepares balance sheets, profit and loss statements for all programs and Retirement Income Plan and Affiliates.

 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Assists supervisor in planning the accounting requirements of Beverly Farm’s programs.
  • Analyzes and compiles all required monthly, quarterly, semi-annual, and annual cost financial reporting on a timely basis and in accordance with the signed and approved contract awards deadline.
  • Responsible for all quarterly and annual financial reports for all required governmental funding sources within set reporting deadlines.
  • Responsible for monthly accounting close-out process.
  • Responsible for quarterly and yearly accounting close-out of Retirement Income Plan, and its annual preparation work for the annual external audit within 180 days ending the fiscal year.
  • Reconciles all Beverly Farm Foundation and affiliates bank accounts within 30 days of month-end bank statement date. Presents folder to the Controller for approval and informs of potential risks or fraud aspects.
  • Attends quarterly mandated training and orientation sessions with governmental agencies and related field agencies.
  • Responsible for managing the annual renewal and compliance licensing for Beverly Farm Foundation fleet, including notification to key management staff of potential violations and risks to the agencies. Tracks agency-wide received violations with quarterly report issuance.
  • Performs accounting tasks, applying well-established management, and accounting principles and practices to a variety of problems to include analyzing and preparing reports as required.
  • Supervises the organization of accounting records and the preparation and submission of reports on the Agency’s financial operations. Maintains fixed and variable allocation tables in the Microsoft Dynamic Accounting system.
  • Maintains CCR registration for all entities and maintains accuracy of filed data.
  • Responsible for maintaining chart of accounts, fixed and variable allocation tables in American HealthTech.
  • Maintains insurance pre-paid accounts and its quarterly allocation to the various programs and provide annually the insurance distribution tables for budgetary purpose.
  • Completes monthly recurring and standard journal entries for month-end.
  • Files annual Capital Expenditures Survey and Economic Census data with the U.S. Department of Commerce.
  • Studies and standardizes procedures to improve efficiency of processes.
  • Analyzes and compiles financial data for quarterly and yearly compliance ratio report within 20 days of quarter end. Monitors the covenant requirements and alerts management of potential defaults.
  • Cross trains back-up person on a quarterly basis to assure minimal interruption during paid leave periods for accounting and payroll staff.
  • Reviews account reconciliations and financial statements for reasonableness and compliance with accounting principles.
  • Administers monthly journal entries in accordance with accounting principles and documents with the required back-up transaction documents. Assures to maintain accurate archiving rules in view of annual external audit.
  • Administers SS/SSI renewal application for our residential services clients and coordinates any client issues directly with the Director of Residential Services.
  • Responsible for all quarterly, semi-annual account reconciliations of designated expenses accounts and related balance sheet accounts.
  • Reviews and examines staff work and output for accuracy, completeness, balance, quality and conformance to policy. Challenges unsubstantiated balances and ensures problems are resolved relating to the back-up chart.
  • Determines work procedures, work schedules, and expedites workflow.
  • As needed and directed, initiates and maintains contacts with Agency management staff and outside individuals and organizations such as auditors and banks.
  • Assists in developing, implementing, and monitoring Agency financial systems, methods and procedures to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of staff.
  • Assists and works closely on the annual audit process with the external auditor and with the Controller.
  • Maintains confidentiality of all information and adheres to the Agency’s Code of Ethics.
  • Performs complex statistical functions and other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor’s degree (B. A.) or equivalent in Accounting, Finance, Management or other appropriate area and/or four to ten years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience preferably in the not -for-profit industry.  Registered CPA required, Master’s degree and supervisory experience are preferred.

ABILITIES REQUIREMENTS:

 

LANGUAGE:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, board members, families, stakeholders and the General Public.

 

MATHEMATICAL:

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra.

REASONING:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to use initiative and independent judgment within established policies and procedural guidelines.
