Job Summary

The Executive Director (ED) of the Biblical History Center (BHC) is the chief executive responsible for advancing the Center’s mission to provide engaging educational experiences that explore the ancient biblical world through archaeology, history, and interactive programming. The ED provides leadership in all organizational areas including operations, financial sustainability, marketing, development, and staff management, while fostering strong partnerships and enhancing community outreach.

Essential Functions Organizational & Operational Oversight

  • Oversees all day-to-day operations of the museum, archaeological garden, biblical meals, artifacts gallery, and visitor experience.
  • Ensures the upkeep, maintenance, and strategic use of BHC’s buildings, equipment, and grounds.
  • Develops and enforces policies and procedures to ensure efficiency, compliance, and a high standard of safety and guest satisfaction.
  • Works with department heads to ensure effective coordination of museum departments including programming, maintenance, education, food service, and retail. Revenue Generation & Financial Stewardship
  • Leads the development and implementation of earned revenue strategies including admissions, tours, retail, food services, and special events.
  • Collaborates with the Board and Finance team to monitor budgets, food services, and special events

  • Works with the auditor on the Center’s annual financial review, including compliance and accountability in expenditures.

Program & Exhibit Oversight

  • Provides strategic oversight to educational programming, exhibit planning, and guest experiences to ensure alignment with mission and historical accuracy.
  • Collaborates with scholars, educators, and external partners to develop new exhibits and interpretive content.
  • Leads evaluation of programming success using visitor feedback, staff input, and performance metrics. Staff & Volunteer Leadership
  • Recruits, hires, supervises, and develops a high-performing team across departments.
  • Fosters a collaborative, mission-driven culture rooted in transparency, accountability, and ongoing professional development.
  • Oversees volunteer engagement and training to enhance capacity and guest experience. Development & Fundraising
  • Creates and executes a comprehensive fundraising plan that includes major gifts, grants, planned giving, sponsorships, and annual campaigns.
  • Cultivates relationships with donors, foundations, and grant makers, working closely with the Board on donor cultivation strategies.
  • Supports the growth of BHC’s fundraising program and private foundation prospecting.

Marketing & Communications

  • Oversees the strategic development and execution of marketing campaigns to grow awareness, attendance, and support.
  • Strengthens the BHC brand across all communication platforms including web, social media, email, and print.
  • Analyzes audience data and digital marketing metrics to refine strategies and maximize return on investment.

Other Responsibilities

Represents BHC publicly through presentations, partnerships, and media. Participates in community events, tourism alliances, and professional museum networks. Performs docent tours and lectures as needed to support team efforts. Performs other duties as assigned by the Board of Directors

Qualifications Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s preferred in nonprofit management, archaeology, history, theology, education, or business.
  • Minimum of 5 years of leadership experience in a nonprofit, museum, or cultural institution setting.
  • Demonstrated success in fundraising, staff supervision, and organizational leadership. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Deep understanding of the mission and purpose of BHC and its biblical/historical context.
  • Excellent leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in budgeting, strategic planning, and donor development.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects while leading a diverse team.
  • Skilled in public speaking, community engagement, and media relations.

Physical Requirements

Ability to meet attendance requirements.

Ability to travel as needed and work weekends and evenings.

Capable of working in indoor and outdoor settings for extended periods.

Working Conditions

Work is generally performed in an office or museum environment with occasional exposure to outdoor elements.

Pay: $75,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
