WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING
The Research & Development Technician plays a central role in assisting the development, testing, and repair of R&D tools, motors, and components in coordination with the engineering department. This role will be responsible for assembly, disassembly, testing, and, at times, troubleshooting new R&D tools. The ideal candidate should have a strong mechanical aptitude, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment. This role requires attention to detail, technical ability, and a commitment to ensuring the safe and efficient operation of downhole tools and motors.
Requirements
ESSENTIAL FUNCTION
• Independently and accurately assemble and disassemble R&D drilling motors and tools while collaborating with the engineering department
• Exhibit adept problem-solving skills in work situations to enhance safety and efficiency
• Skillfully handle assembly and disassembly service reports
• Ensure accurate Quality Control (QC) for disassembled downhole drilling motors and tools
• Inspect materials and products for conformance to company specifications and categorizes them accordingly
• Photograph and document post-teardown findings and coordinate with needed parties with action items
• Coordinate with Inventory and Parts Control for ordering parts for inventory, performing inventory count, machine shop parts priority, shipping and receiving • Accurately maintain inventory of R&D components and tools
• Possess a broad knowledge base in Microsoft programs
• Collaborate closely with engineers and shop personnel to balance the timing and demands of both departments as well as to relay findings and observations
• Effectively communicate progress updates, findings, and insights to ensure seamless alignment across all project phases
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED • Minimum of 2 years experience with drilling tools and motors is required • Intimate knowledge of the proper use of torque machines utilized in the R&M procedures of downhole tools. (NOV Torque Master experience preferred) • Exceptional teamwork and communication skills for effective collaboration and technical reporting • Forklift certified, preferred • Ability to work in a team-oriented, high-pressured, and fast-paced environment • Ability to comprehend production and rework requirements • Ability to speak, read, and write the English language fluently
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to lift and carry heavy equipment and components, up to 25 pounds
- Operate basic office equipment, such as a keyboard, mouse, copier/printer/scanner
- Sit and/or stand for long periods of time, up to 8-10 hours a day
- Walk/travel to production areas while wearing appropriate Personal Protection Equipment (PPE), at minimum includes safety glasses, steel toe shoes/boots and a hardhat
