What are the responsibilities and job description for the Manufacturing Engineer position at Big Ass Fans?
A Big Ass Fans Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for identifying areas of improvement, maintaining high levels of manufacturing and product quality, as well as ensuring safety, cost-efficiency, and conformance with product standards. Additionally, you will participate in designing, integrating, and/or improving manufacturing systems or related processes. Furthermore, you will work with the BAF product design teams to refine designs to increase manufacturability and decrease costs.
Responsibilities
- Drive improvements in safety, quality, and efficiency improvements on the production floor.
- Reduce waste through the application of lean manufacturing processes.
- Incorporate new methods and processes to improve existing operations.
- Develop processes for new products.
- Determine root causes of failures using statistical methods and recommend changes in designs, tolerances, or processing methods.
- Review product designs for manufacturability and completeness.
- Attend and participate in Cross Functional Team meetings beginning with product conceptualization and support through product launch.
- Design, install, or troubleshoot manufacturing equipment.
- Implement and maintain safety and quality systems for new and current processing equipment.
- Monitor and review information from materials, events, or the environment, to detect or assess problems.
- Ability to listen to, work with, and train production personnel in new or existing methods.
- Provide documentation, detailed instructions, drawings, or specifications to demonstrate how devices, parts, equipment, or structures are to be fabricated, constructed, assembled, modified, maintained, or used.
- Determine time, costs, resources, or materials needed to perform work activity.
- Contribute to insource vs. outsource decisions via completion of internal quoting processes.
- Other responsibilities and tasks, as needed, to support the business needs.

- Bachelor’s Degree in Manufacturing/Industrial Engineering, or a related field
- 5 years of related experience in manufacturing process engineering
- Strong project management experience
- Ability to coordinate, communicate with, and manage outside contractors
- Ability to design and improve manufacturing processes
- Experience with AutoCAD, Solidworks, or other CAD software
- Proven ability to troubleshoot electrical and mechanical system
- Experience with Surface Mount Technology processes, nice to have
- Experience with PLC programming, nice to have
- Ability to work on a non-conditioned production floor environment
- Ability to lift up to 50lbs and physically assist in moving production equipment
- Physical requirements (specific to labor-intensive roles)
