Director of Intuitional Giving
POSITION PURPOSE
The Director of Institutional Giving works closely with the Vice President, Development to increase and diversify giving, with the expectation of securing $1M-$1.5M in commitments annually. The Director is responsible for the identification, cultivation, and solicitation of gifts from individuals and families for Big Brothers Big Sisters Miami’s annual programs, operations, and special events and capital projects.
Key Relationships:
Director of Development will directly report to the VP of Fund Development
Compensation:
The Development Manager position is an exempt full-time position. This position is supervised by VP of Fund Development. The salary for this position is between $75-85k depending on experience. BBBS of Miami positions involve regular computer use plus some minimal lifting.

Essential Responsibilities:
Background Clearance
BBBS of Miami, mandatory complete FDLE background clearance on all employee’s pre-employment and tri-annually thereafter. The Agency adheres to all applicable Federal, State and Local Laws regulating the use of backgrounds for the purpose of employment, along with the Standards of Big Brothers Big Sisters of America.
Drug-Free Workplace
Big Brothers Big Sisters is committed to being a drug-free employer. Although some State/Local Laws permit the use and possession of marijuana for both medical purposes and recreational use, Federal Law does not. Essential Responsibilities:
- Manage a grant portfolio of $4 million
- Maintain the tracking, reporting and goal management of current and prospective grants
- Collaborate with VP of Development to set and manage goals, create and implement a comprehensive annual plan for securing institutional support
- Proactively identify, research and cultivate annual and multi-year prospective funders, leveraging professional relationships and those of senior leadership
- Manage the Grant Developer and their prospecting, writing, submission and reporting of grants
- Work with the Development Department to oversee donor recognition, stewardship and benefit fulfillment for grant supporters
- Work with cross-functional team on identifying grant funding needs, budget gaps and programmatic functions requiring funding
- Assure that the grant process aligns Big Brothers Big Sisters mission and programmatic goals, and work to create mutually beneficial partnerships with funders
- Monitor institutional giving trends on local, state and national levels
- Develop and manage a strategic communications plan for funding decision makers, including the coordination of site visits and strategic meetings.
- Meet with funders regularly to engage and steward
- Ensure grant reports are submitted in a timely manner containing robust content
- Maintain a portfolio of corporate partners and their year-round giving inclusive of corporate support, event sponsorships and programmatic support with a goal of $500,000
- Seven to ten years of professional experience with a successful record of accomplishment in achieving fundraising goals
- Grant writing and management experience at non-profit institution(s), preferably in the arts field
- Excellent organizational and time management skills, including setting and communicating realistic deadlines while overseeing a timeline and team members to achieve funder objectives
- Knowledge of the corporate, foundation, and government funding landscape and regional and national philanthropic communities
- Experience in budget compilation and reporting for complex organizations
- Outstanding writing, editing and proofreading skills
- Contributes to a positive team dynamic and a participatory workstyle
- Discretion and the ability to handle confidential information with great sensitivity
- Excellent reasoning abilities, sound judgment, superior interpersonal skills, and impeccable attention to detail
- Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office programs and fundraising databases, such as Raisers Edge
- Excellent writing skills backed by case statements, proposals, and collateral material examples
- Superb verbal and presentation proficiency; as well as effective planning, organization, time management, and multi-tasking skills
- Exemplary emotional intelligence, with the ability to inspire donors and partners about the mission of Big Brothers Big Sisters Miami
