What are the responsibilities and job description for the Pastry Chef position at Big Delicious Planet?
Talented Pastry Chef needed at Big Delicious Planet Catering. Come join our team and have your own department! Big Delicious Planet is woman-owned and rated the "Greenest Caterer in America."
The ideal candidate would have:
• 2 years experience working in a fast paced, high pressure kitchen.
• 2 years experience baking tasty scratch savory items, seasonal items, breakfast breads and pastries, wedding cakes, cookies, minis, pies, galettes, ice cream, etc.
• Outstanding cake decorating skills - we make a lot of wedding cakes from cutting cakes to three tiered wedding cakes.
• Desire to create interesting desserts
• Incredible eye for design, talent for decorating beautiful desserts, plating and presentation.
• Knowledge of seasonal desserts using ingredients from our Urban Farm.
• Desire to learn new trends, new items, new skills and to have fun.
• Excellent time management skills and the foresight to prep in advance.
• Ability to work well individually and with a kitchen of other chefs.
• Confidence to be able to take constructive criticism and direction from owner.
• Flexibility to last minute changes and additions.
• Experience with vegan and gluten-free desserts.
• High standards for organization, sanitation, cleanliness.
• Ability to stand on feet for long periods of time and to lift and move cases, boxes, bags of product.
• Flexible schedule as each week is different, but hours are usually during the day.
• Must be able to work some weekends during our busy season, and potentially work events.
Approximately 25-32 hours per week or up to 40 hours per week if you're willing to make this a hybrid position with the primary work being in pastry and the other hours doing prep or assisting the head chef with ordering.
Benefits if over 32 hours per week.
