Position: Real World Learning Coordinator
Position Description
Under the direction of Big Picture Philadelphia’s Director of Real World Learning, the Real World Learning (RWL) Program Coordinator supports students at El Centro de Estudiantes and Vaux Big Picture High School to attain and maintain Real World Learning opportunities and interest-based internships. The coordinator will help with mentor recruitment, as well as managing and nurturing internship resources. Working collaboratively with RWL team members, the RWL coordinator will help to develop best practice guidelines, procedures, and protocols to ensure that Big Picture Philadelphia students have equitable access to high-quality work-based learning experiences designed to prepare each student for postsecondary and workforce success. The position will support and execute initiatives such as career exploration events, mentoring, and student internships to further prepare students for life outside of high school.
Responsibilities:
- Assist with new mentor recruitment and help maintain relationships with mentors.
- Assist in the management of internship cohorts.
- Provide success coaching to students; provide support and resources to help students reach their academic and personal goals.
- When needed, support advisors with how to do interest exploration, how to brainstorm Learning Through Internships (LTI) sites and projects, how to manage LTIs and projects, run LTI meetings and work with mentors, etc.
- Help monitor staff follow-through with submission of all LTI documentation and the implementation of the LTI process.
- Update internship sites and mentor information in the ImBlaze database on an on-going basis.
- Use the ImBlaze database to track students’ LTI progress.
- Collect, analyze and manage background check documentation (mentor profiles, ePATCH, Childline Clearance, etc.).
- Help track interest exploration and real-world learning data; report data to principals weekly; work with advisors to stay current with data collection.
- Attend initial LTI set up, project set up, and LTI check-in meetings with new advisors.
- Attend grade level meetings with advisors to provide LTI guidance and support.
- Conduct site visits to current and potential internship sites to evaluate learning/work environments.
- Support the implementation of the annual Real World Learning regional summit, Mentor Celebration, Mock Interview Day, and student achievement events.
- Help distribute SEPTA Key Cards to students for internship travel.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Minimum of two years experience working in a secondary or higher education setting
- Experience working with a diverse, urban population with a focus on higher education and career goals
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as well as take initiative
- Availability for events during and after school hours (Open Houses, Recruitment events, fairs, etc.)
- Passion for student achievement and success
- Commitment to practices that foster diversity, equity and inclusion
- Experience in workforce development is strongly preferred, but not required. Thorough understanding of and enthusiasm for the Big Picture Philadelphia mission
Skills and Abilities:
- Enthusiasm for establishing and promoting effective working relationships with staff across all levels and functions of the organization, as well as with outside consultants and vendors, and members of the larger Big Picture Philadelphia community of partners and stakeholders
- Demonstrated ability to operate effectively in a diverse, complex, and fast paced work environment
- Understanding of and ability to execute federal, state, and local employment law
- Commitment to proactive and regular communication with supervisors and colleagues around progress, obstacles and needs
- Proficiency in common computer software applications and willingness to learn new applications and systems as needed
- Strong analytical, oral, and written communication skills
- Excellent organizational skills, including time management, attention to detail, and the ability to balance competing priorities and deadlines
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $50,000.00 per year
