POSITION SUMMARY

 

As Bio-techne’s custom service business matures the need is for a further project manager specializing in the field of antibody and immunoassay services. This position is intended as an entry-level position into management of both internal and external stakeholders (Custom Products and Services), with relevant technical experience and education, as well as business, marketing and customer service savvy, but not necessarily direct experience in marketing, product management or sales.

The CDS will support the growing market of Antibody and Immunoassay Custom Services available at Bio-Techne and will serve on a team that is charged with customer service and revenue generation through delivery of custom products and services as a business unit. (S)he will assist in initial customer (or sales rep) interaction, and subsequently developing project proposals (Statements of Work), establishing project pricing, timelines, deliverables, with appropriate stage-gating to ensure projects meet customer expectations.

The CD Specialist must be able to communicate with representatives of all areas of the company, including Sales, Product Development, Regulatory and QA/QC, Technical Service, Marcom, Operations, Finance, Legal and Senior Management, as well as customers, prospects, purchasing agents, etc.  (S)he will serve as the internal and external advocate for her/his service offering and be the general expert on its use and positioning.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Develops projects proposals (Statements of Work) for core competency requests, and establishes project pricing, timelines, deliverables, and stage-gating to ensure that projects meet the expectations of all internal and external (customers) stakeholders.
  • Identifies and implements custom services process optimizations.
  • Maintains and updates relevant systems (revenue reporting, salesforce, AX) to improve team efficiency.
  • Ensures that all projects are delivered on-time and within scope to meet or exceed customers’ needs and expectations.
  • Represents Custom Services group by interfacing with product development scientists, production and manufacturing, QC/QA, and sales to deliver individual projects and support achievement of revenue targets.
  • Supports Commercial Development Manager’s activities for the development of strategic business plans, marketing plans, programs to enter new markets and geographies (and, potentially, affiliates’ technologies), strategic customer identification, and sustainable revenue growth.
  • Follow company policies and practices as outlined in Handbook and follow guidelines, regarding safety as outlined in the AWAIR, Chemical Hygiene and Exposure Control manuals.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned

 

Qualifications


Education and Experience

  • BS in a Biological Science required
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of progressive experience working in the biotech or life sciences industry or academia
  • Relevant laboratory or technical experience preferred
  • Travel up to four times a year, as required (international travel possible).

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Basic, functional knowledge about the Biotech division (RSD) products and their development, manufacturing, quality control and uses, competitor(s) and their product offerings, and the biomedical marketplace, as well as the ability to continually gain in-depth knowledge
  • A passion for the products and company and a deep empathy for the customer and their needs and goals, with the intelligence to combine and integrate various sources of information into opportunities and strategies
  • Pre-disposition to a positive attitude set, including a firm belief in no excuses, in order to appropriately define success
  • Solid interpersonal relationship skills, leadership and decisiveness in order to solicit key ideas and information and obtain alignment between customer needs and divisional capabilities, as well as the confidence to make and support decisions
  • Ability to work independently and without constant supervision to gain assistance and knowledge from a wide variety of specialists in the organization, without direct authority over those individuals, in order to make the necessary decisions to successfully drive custom projects
  • Proficient in planning, organization, problem-solving and multi-tasking skills to complete assignments in a timely, efficient manner
  • Outstanding oral and written communication and presentation skills allowing the ability to communicate professionally across all layers of the organization, as well as with customers and prospects
  • Proficient in the use of computer applications and software which allow for analysis and presentation of data, as well as enabling productivity (e.g., Microsoft Office, Salesforce.com, AX); expected to become proficient in proprietary databases and ERP solutions
  • Ability to handle sensitive and proprietary information with discretion and confidentiality, while learning to appreciate fundamental legal concepts relevant to the company’s proprietary technologies
