Description

Salary Range: $152,600 – 228,800

Position Summary:

The EHS Manager position is responsible for developing, planning, coordinating and directing environmental and health/safety activities of the Bio-Techne Minnesota sites as well as provide guidance to the North American business units as part of the corporate EHS team.

 

  • Focus on achieving the highest levels of SHE performance through behavior-base initiatives, auditing, mentoring and expeditiously implementing change.
  • Provide EHS leadership to improve safety culture and overall safety statistics.
  • Maintain positive and proactive relations with managers and employees, as well as our customers and regulatory agencies.
  • Provide assistance and advice on EHS issues to make recommendations to facility management.
  • Participate in detailed incident investigations and Root Cause Analysis.

 

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Work with EHS Corporate team to ensure compliance.
  • Manage EHS team for Safety and Environmental Management including training where needed.
  • Direct various safety training programs including Blood Borne Pathogens, Chemical Hygiene Safety, and AWAIR Training.
  • Oversee EHS program for Bio-Techne’s Minneapolis area plants, including spill responses, corrective action plans for incidences, and fire drills and action plans.
  • Participates in ISO 14001 and other EH&S related audits.
  • Communicate with HR and other parties to ensure OSHA 300 Log and OSHA 301 form is completed and posted as required by federal statute.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal environmental health and safety regulations for Minneapolis area plants.
  • Interacts with government agencies on regulations, permitting, and compliance. Assists in the preparation of regulatory and internal company reports as required.
  • Responsible for Safety Data Sheet generation in accordance with GHS Guidelines.
  • Keep current on new Safety and Hazardous materials regulations and assists in developing and implementing compliance strategies in response to these regulations.
  • Provide expertise and leadership to foster a comprehensive safety culture and behaviors that prevent incidents, injuries and illnesses.
  • Develop and implement safety and health procedures and policies that build upon the foundation of existing programs
  • Provide EH&S programs training to impacted employees
  • Serve as the primary compliance officer with regard to federal, state, and local governmental regulations
  • Conduct workplace compliance audits and establish a system for identifying and resolving noncompliance and deficiencies in meeting company and regulatory objectives
  • Manage and update the Hazardous Materials Business Plan and Medical Waste Management Plan, Verification Questionnaire, and other regulatory agency submittals and requirements
  • Develop functional Emergency Response and Violence Prevention programs
  • Organize and spearhead the company’s Safety Committee
  • Build collaborative and productive working relationships with key internal and external stakeholders
  • Plan, execute, and evaluate assignments that have a broad impact on operations and the business.
  • Facilities Responsibilities
    • Coordinate with the Facilities group on shared Facilities management systems
    • Respond with urgency to critical facilities issues at any time
    • Assist with managing Facilities contractors and preventive maintenance contracts required to maintain systems and instrumentation vital to operations
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications


  • This position requires a B.A./B.S. degree and 5 years of Safety / Hazardous materials professional experience or a combination of education, experience, managerial skills and training which provides the necessary background for performing the work.
  • A Certified Safety Manager (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), or other safety management certificate is preferred
  • Prior experience with the FDA’s Good Manufacturing Practices is preferred
  • Experience with Large Facilities EHS operations and multiple sites.


Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

  • Working knowledge of OSHA, EPA, ISO14011, ISO9001/ISO13485 and other regulatory requirements applicable to the company’s operations
  • Knowledgeable in biosafety, ergonomics, materials management, and other programs outside regulatory oversight
  • Ability to influence key business decisions that involve operational EH&S functions
  • Proven ability to collaborate and lead a group of people in dramatically improving their culture of safety
