Role Description

Biocient is seeking a passionate neuroscientist with deep expertise in molecular and cellular biology techniques. This position will provide support in conducting research activities related to projects concerning neuronal degeneration in Alzheimer’s disease to develop effective preventative and therapeutic interventions. The Research Scientist will work closely with the team under the supervision of the principal investigator to perform various research tasks including animal handling, tissue dissection, immunohistochemistry, confocal microscopy, and data analysis.


Position Responsibilities

· Conduct the study in accordance with the approved protocol

· Perform animal handling tasks, including breeding, genotyping, and drug administration

· Mouse brain and eyes sectioning

· Perform immunohistochemical staining, confocal microscopy and image analysis

· Analyze and interpret experimental data and maintain accurate records

· Mouse colony management

· Conduct literature searches and assist with literature reviews

· Collect and enter data

· Organize research materials and maintain accurate records

· Contribute to the preparation of research reports, presentations, reviews and publications

· Participate in research team meetings and discussions and provide regular progress updates.

· Maintain a clean and safe laboratory environment, and report to the PI any problems or issues with the laboratory environment

· Participate in regular lab safety maintenance, including monthly medical waste disposal.

· Participate in annual EH&S inspections

· Assure all empty animal cages are returned to DLAM facilities in a timely manner.

· Perform other research-related duties as assigned.


Position Requirements

· Ph.D. in Biology, Neuroscience or related field with deep expertise in molecular and cellular biology techniques

· Direct experience with Alzheimer's disease or related neurodegenerative diseases

· Strong research experience in mitochondrial biology (preferred)

· Strong research experience using mouse models

· Strong research experience in immunohistochemistry, confocal microscopy, PCR, and Western Blots

· Knowledge of experimental design

· Statistical and quantitative analysis skills

· Basic bioinformatics skills

· Experience working with rodents and in a research laboratory

· Proficiency in data management and organization of technical information

· Ability to troubleshoot and follow detailed research protocols

· Self-motivated and highly dedicated

· Effective organizational and prioritization skills

· Effective oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills

· Ability to work both independently as well as collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment

· Attention to detail and accuracy in record-keeping

· Willingness to learn new techniques and methods as needed

· Willingness to take all training activates to assure a clean and safe laboratory environment

· Strong organizational, written and verbal communication skills
