Job Description

Black Earth Compost is the leading full service compost company in New England. We have grown extensively in the past 3 years expanding from one site in Manchester by the Sea to two additional sites in Groton and Framingham. We take in food scraps from households and businesses that we collect in our trucks and turn it into rich, finished compost. In the spring we deliver this compost to Farmers, Gardeners, Landscapers.

This position is a full time position spanning our two departments. You would be doing site work or deliveries most of the time and driving collections routes as needed. Once our collection side is in need of another full time driver you would be called up to transition to our collections driving program which offers weekly bonuses based on performance. We are looking for folks willing to learn on the job and grow within the company.

Skills or knowledge in operating equipment, mechanics, electrical, carpentry, farming, or soil science are great bonuses. We are looking for reliable workers that aren’t afraid to get their hands dirty and take on any new challenges that they are faced with. General Responsibilities

Site Responsibilities:

• Drive non-CDL trucks to deliver our finished compost, soils, and raised beds to residential customers, garden centers, farmers and landscaping contractors.
• Drive pickup trucks to deliver new bins and bags to various locations
• Site maintenance such as building raised beds, cleaning trucks, cleaning used totes, picking out plastics, glass, etc from our finished and in process compost

Driving Responsibilities

• Operate a non CDL truck safely and effectively
• Do a pre trip inspection of your truck reporting any issues you see
• Collect food waste from 200-500 households, completing all stops
• Use our phones and app to navigate from stop to stop following all instructions listed in the app
• Deliver items to households as outlined on the app
• Dump your load and clean out your cab at the end of your day

Requirements:

• Comfortable driving large trucks, a clean driving record, and the ability to pass a background check.
• Some long hours and early mornings, must be flexible
• Must be able to work in all weather conditions
• Reliable and honest
• Mechanical skills a plus
• Construction/Carpentry experience is a plus
• MA DOT medical card holder (Required to drive. Black Earth will cover cost of DOT medical exam for new hires.)
• THIS POSITION WILL REQUIRE ONE WEEK OF TRAINING OUT OF OUR MAIN SITE IN MANCHESTER BY THE SEA. We will reimburse you for the cost of gas.
