What are the responsibilities and job description for the Nursing Instructor position at Blackhawk Technical College?
Overview
The Nursing Instructor teaches credit courses within the Associate of Applied Science Degree in Nursing degree program. Position reports to the Administrative Chair of Nursing. Duties including teaching courses that prepare a student for careers within Nursing.
This position will be open until filled, with a first review date of October 21, 2024. After this date, the recruitment may close without further notice. Interested applicants are encouraged to apply as soon as possible.
Responsibilities
Provide instruction for didactic, laboratory and clinical courses in Nursing as assigned.
Engage in ongoing student learning assessment in the Nursing program to determine effectiveness of instruction and curriculum. Use data to measure program outcomes related to student persistence, retention, completion rate, course success, and to design improvement strategies based on the evidence.
Remain current on best practices in the teaching field so that instruction is delivered for a variety of learning styles, uses the latest supportive technology, and utilizes alternative delivery methods. Develop curricula, assessments and lab projects to improve student success in a multitude of delivery modalities.
Manage classrooms and oversee the lab to ensure a safe and productive learning environment. Responsible for lab inventory, ordering of supplies, tools and equipment, and the maintenance of required lab equipment.
Maintain accurate student records and reports as requested by administrative offices.
Identify students needing assistance and refer students to Student Services. Collaborate with Student Services and the Learning Resources staff members to help students adjust to the learning environment.
Develop and update or revise course and program curriculum as needed to maintain relevance. Prepare and update course syllabi (using BTC guidelines) for each course taught and work cooperatively with members of other departments and programs in coordinating courses.
Meet weekly office hours and other duties required to meet student, employer, and college needs.
Create a classroom environment that is respectful of diversity and demonstrates a commitment to multiculturalism.
Attend Advisory Committee and departmental meetings.
Collaborate with Business & Industry and Secondary Education partners to recruit students to the Nursing program. Assist in job placement activities for graduates.
Participate in staff development activities and serve on college improvement teams and college wide committees as appropriate.
Assist administrative chair and dean in other duties as assigned.
Meet Wisconsin Technical College System professional development requirements through the Faculty Quality Assurance System.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
Master’s Degree in Nursing.
Two years (4,000 hours) of nursing experience, of which at least one year (2,000 hours) shall be within the five years prior to date of appointment. One year (2,000 hours) of nursing experience may be waived if the occupational instructor has at least two years of post-secondary teaching experience in the field of nursing within five years prior to the date of appointment.
Current or eligible for Wisconsin license to practice as an R.N. Must be licensed to practice as an R.N. in Wisconsin by the employment start date.
Current American Heart Association Health Care Provider CPR certification.
Desired Qualifications:
Previous post-secondary teaching experience.
