Position Description

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt- Seasonal- Full-Time
Reports to: Camp Manager

Position Summary:
The Summer Camp Educator position is a full-time (40 hours/ week), seasonal, non-exempt position. This position creates, implements and leads outdoor summer day camp activities using environmental education/recreation curriculum for children ages 6 to 12 years old. Summer Camp Educators also assist in mentoring, supervising, and coaching middle and high school students in youth development best practices. The position runs from June 6th, 2022 to August 19th, 2022.

Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Deliver and enhance weekly lesson plans that correspond to thematic camp programs to youth groups ages 6-12
  • Attend mandatory training June 6th-10th, 2022
  • Lead children through Blandford Nature Center’s trails and grounds
  • Maintain high standards of safety and well-being of program participants
  • Maintain personal responsibility of acting in accordance with most current local, state and federal health guidelines, as well as Blandford’s current policies
  • Assist in the training and supervision of middle and high school camp aide volunteers
  • Assist in the maintenance and storage of program equipment, supplies and facilities
  • Assist in proper sanitation of used camp materials, program equipment, and spaces
  • Assist in documentation and evaluation of camp programs
  • Assist with other duties as assigned

Minimum Required Qualifications:
  • Previous experience teaching/working with children
  • Coursework in the field of education, environmental sciences, natural sciences, biology, parks and recreation management or related field
  • Excellent judgment and reliability
  • Positive role model in attitude and behavior
  • Energetic, flexible and able to work independently
  • Ability to work effectively with students in the outdoors, in all types of weather and over uneven terrain
  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently with all Blandford Nature Center staff and volunteers
  • Strong verbal communication skills
  • Competency in Microsoft Office and Google Doc
  • Current certification or ability to be certified in Adult and Child CPR/First Aid
  • Criminal Background check clearance and fingerprints will be required prior to working with youth

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in outdoor education and/or camp settings
  • Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds and cultures

Compensation:
This is a paid, non-exempt, full-time, seasonal position working 40 hours per week. The position pays $14.11 per hour. The position starts June 6th, 2022 and ends August 19th, 2022. Mandatory training is June 6th-10th, 2022.
