This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Under the supervision of the Senior Director of Program Development and Director of Youth Development, the Summer STEAM Camp Educator is responsible for supervising and providing care and YMCA STEAM curriculum to youth ages 7- 12 from 1 : 00PM- 3 : 00PM daily from June 9th, 2025, through July 3rd, 2025, in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.

Requirements :
Essential Job Functions :
- Plan, prepare, and lead activities and lesson plans throughout the programming time with designated grade level that supports growth of the whole child.
- Support the mental, physical, and social-emotional development of children by initiating and mediating interactions through activities that provide opportunities to advance each child’s mind, body, and spirit.
- Apply basic knowledge of youth development and youth development principles in working with students through communication, relationship development, respect for diversity and involvement / empowerment of youth.
- Properly and efficiently supervise youth at all times. Be aware of and implement all applicable health and safety regulations and guidelines.
- Actively participate in all program areas as assigned.
- Be a role model to youth and staff in your attitude and behavior
- Follow and uphold all safety and security rules and procedures
- Set a good example to youth and others in regard to general steam camp procedures and practices including sanitation, schedule, and sportsmanship
- Represent the Y when interacting with parents or community member
- Provide parents appropriate feedback and information as needed for their students to have a successful steam camp experience.

CHILD ABUSE PREVENTION AND REQUIRED TRAININGS & CERTIFICATIONS
The Bloomington-Normal YMCA adheres to the strictest regulations pertaining to Child Abuse Prevention and requires all staff and volunteers to complete Child Abuse Prevention Training at time of hire and on an annual basis. Other required trainings and certifications, provided by the YMCA during on-boarding or within the first 60 days of employment, include : Illinois Mandated Reporter Certification, Illinois Sexual Harassment and Discrimination Training, CPR / AED / First Aid certification, and OSHA training including Bloodborne Pathogens.
