Field instructors work an 8-days on, 6-days off schedule. For the entire 8 days, instructors camp and live in the outdoors with a group of 4-12 students. As a Field Instructor, your primary duty is to ensure the physical and emotional safety of individual students and the group. Your role requires you to be a mix of outdoor educator, teacher, mentor, and coach. In fact, your role-modeling may be our most effective tool for creating change! This is an extremely challenging and rewarding job with a sense of purpose for those who feel called to it. We are professionals in everything we do-- be it teaching a student how to backpack, playing a game, or coaching a student through a moment of frustration.
We look for new staff who are self-aware, resilient, and want to grow professionally and personally. Beginning with your very first day of work in the field, we will provide you with support and guidance so that you develop and improve upon your foundation of skills. We value all kinds of experience and seek a diverse set of skills and life experiences to better serve our students.
In a typical day or week, you can expect to: hike, cook over a fire, sleep under the stars, teach a lesson on assertive communication, practice excellent risk management, deliver first-aid, and develop strong relationships based on trust and respect.
