Position Summary
The Direct Support Professional II position is responsible for the daily assistance and development of an individual with a disability to lead an independent life. Management of the home schedule and operations is mandatory to insure assigned goals, schedules, resident data and cleaning duties are followed to encourage positive behaviors. The DSP II is supervised by the Shift Manager.
The DSP II is a member of the Interdisciplinary Team (IDT) that evaluates, provides services for and monitors the progress of each resident at the group home.
Responsibilities
The DSP II is expected to demonstrate minimum competence in problem solving, taking initiative, resident rights, quality, organization and teamwork.
- Attend and participate in the interdisciplinary processes to provide service recommendations for resident(s).
- Communicates positively and effectively, and supports efforts of co-workers.
- Ensuring client safety and maintaining a safe environment.
- Uses calming therapeutic approaches with residents to provide consistent attention and opportunities for residents to learn.
- Provides continuous Active Treatment as defined by Intermediate Care Facilities for Individuals with Intellectual Disabilities (ICF/IID) Regulations.
- Completes duties as advocate for resident(s) and initiates communication with appropriate personnel when help is needed.
- Refers to daily planning checklists and completes required documentation.
- Provides positive and effective communication with the day activities, guardians/family, consultant and any other vendors.
- Prioritizes tasks, uses time efficiently to complete assigned tasks.
- Provides consistent supervision of residents during all activities at all times.
- Maintains confidentiality at all times.
- Completes all additional driver assignments and maintains a clean driving record per company standards.
- Reports all vehicle issues and or damage immediately to supervisor and Facilities staff.
- Other duties as assigned.
Success Criteria
Primary criteria for success are resident and employee affinity. Success is measured around resident satisfaction and employee advocacy. Success criteria include:
- Ensure that all Federal, State, Local, ICF/IID and Innovation Wavier Service standards and regulations are adhered to and followed.
- Follow all policies and procedures.
- Actively pursue professional development through education via seminars and training conferences.
- Maintain current certifications in NCI , CPR, First Aid, TB Skin Test, OSHA and others as required.
- Maintain current Driver certification and hold a clean driving record.
- May participate in amended work schedule.
Experience and Education Required
- 18 years of age or older
- High school diploma
- Valid driver's license
- Current DSP I in good standing.
- Completion of driver certification and annual certification requirements.
Skills Required
Each DSP II is expected to demonstrate minimum competence in reliability, job knowledge, policies and procedures, and program implementation.
- Ability to work in home-like settings.
- Ability to communicate (verbally and written) with all levels of personnel at all times.
- Ability to handle physical aspects of job, including the ability to perform NCI interventions; bending; stooping; lifting, pushing, and pulling up to 50 lbs.; reaching; and standing and walking for extended periods of time.
- Independently and consistently completes specific job duties.
- Follows protocol for program documentation
- Provides a clean, neat and organized work environment and home.
- Maintain certification in applicable trainings, including but not limited to Driver, CPR and First Aid, NCI , Blood Bourne Pathogens, TB Skin Test and complete
competency based training in areas identified by the organization.
Salary : $13 - $14
