Building-Level Robotics Coach at Bedford North Lawrence High School
JOB TITLE: Building Robotics Coach
REPORTS TO: Building Administrator
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION: The High School Robotics Coach is responsible for providing guidance, instruction, and support to high school students participating in robotics. This role involves teaching robotics concepts, fostering problem-solving skills, and encouraging creativity in designing and building robots. The Robotics Coach serves as a mentor, motivator, and technical advisor, helping participants develop both technical and teamwork skills necessary for success in robotics competitions. The coach will recruit students, hold practices, and participate in robotics competitions.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
? Coaches will be responsible for coordinating practices from September - March.
? Coaches will be required to have at least one (1) practice a week after school that lasts 1-2 hours.
? Coaches must supply practice and scrimmage schedules to their building administrator. ? Coaches will be required to travel to robotics competitions, which will be on a Saturday.
? Coaches will be required to register with REC and may be asked to submit for a background check.
? Coaches will be responsible for ordering team t-shirts.
? Coaches will communicate with Tricia Hudson, Angela Malone, and Kelli Terrell concerning registration fees, tournament registrations and fees, robot supplies, field elements, and other questions.
? Coaches will maintain 3-4 students per robot.
? Coaches will recruit students based on interest and the number of available spots.
? VEX Robotics is designed as a student-led program. Coaches will act as guides and give students an opportunity to build robotics and engineering design process skills.
? Coaches will need to be proactive in raising funds to sustain the High School Robotics teams. (i.e. host a VEX IQ tournament, work concession for NLCS Robotics Booster Club, apply for grants, gain sponsorships, etc.)
? Coaches must attend any meetings.
? The Robotics Coach will assist students with developing real-world skills such as teamwork, cooperation, and problem-solving. Students will also learn about robotics, coding, and the engineering design process. The Robotics Coach serves as a mentor, motivator, and technical advisor, helping participants develop both technical and teamwork skills necessary for success in robotics competitions.
QUALIFICATIONS:
? Qualified applicants should have a strong interest in STEM education.
? Extensive background and knowledge in robotics is not necessary to be an effective coach.
? Free Training for new coaches will be supplied by the REC.
? Ability to troubleshoot and guide students with critical thinking skills.
? Previous robotics experience is not required.
? Effective management of multi-age groups of students.
? Experience with multiple forms of technology
Pay- $375 per semester per position Total- $750
