Summary: We are looking for a Network Engineer who will design, implement, and supports our network infrastructure. You will be part of the networking team within IT Operations.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Configures and installs network hardware and services
- Performs network maintenance and upgrades as required
- Monitors overall network and specific network hardware performance and availability
- Provides tier 2 and 3 support to users
- Follows all policies and change management procedures to ensure a solid network infrastructure
- Maintains technical proficiency by reading technical reference manuals and learning from colleagues
- Work with vendors and other IT employees when resolving problems
- Preserves organizational knowledge by fully documenting processes, symptoms, causes, and solutions for future reference
- Participates in and takes a leadership role in IT projects as needed
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Experience with Juniper, Cisco, Aruba, and Mist networking and wireless systems
- Knowledge of networking protocols (OSPF, BGP, 802.11, DHCP, etc.)
- Understanding of the OSI or TCP/IP model
- Good analytical skills
- Good communication skills, written and oral
- Willingness and aptitude to learn new skills, technologies and processes
- Ability to work as an individual contributor and as a team player
- Willingness to be flexible
- Ability to adapt as IT adjusts in its functionality
- Understanding of the University's goals and objectives
COMPUTER SKILLS:
- Microsoft Word and Excel
- Juniper or other network certifications a plus
