JOB DESCRIPTION:
To provide veterans entering this program with the support and skills needed to challenge the obstacles in their lives. To relate with the veterans on a personal level so that they are empowered to pursue their recovery through shared experiences and strategies for success.
PRIMARY JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Assists the recovery team with assessing strengths and needs of veterans in the program by directly observing/teaching skills.
- Assist with recovery plans that seek to restore a veteran’s functioning in key roles in life such as work, family and community.
- Builds working relationship and maintains regular contact
- Communicates the veteran’s needs to the team. Reports, as appropriate, all unusual events, activities and incidents to supervisor or appropriate team member.
- Assists veteran to access resources in the community such as recreational activities, work, medical, dental, etc.
- Mentors veterans in role recovery activities such as symptom management, relapse prevention, stress reduction and work readiness.
- Directly transports and teaches public transportation to veterans to support independence.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's degree minimum required.
Minimum of one year of responsible work experience, preferably involving interactions with veterans/military.
Knowledge of recovery model, counseling techniques, verbal crisis intervention and mental health and co-occurring substance use disorders preferred.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Good skills and demonstrated abilities in communication - verbal and/or written, interpersonal relations, teaching/instructing, counseling, coaching, training, basic math and language, record keeping, evaluating, organizing work, planning, crisis intervention, and such others that are usually and customarily considered necessary for satisfactory completion of essential duties.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Valid Florida Driver's License with the ability to be motor-insured.
