Job Summary
The Wastewater Operator will work in both the North and South Wastewater Treatment Plants in Baton Rouge, LA. This role consists of maintaining daily plant operations including sampling and testing, maintenance on pumps and motors, and pursuing Louisiana Department of Health certifications in wastewater treatment and collection.
This role will work in-person and will work on a 12 hour (2-on / 2-off , 3-on / 3-off every 14 days) schedule, rotating day/night shifts. Shift times are 6:30am - 6:30pm and 6:30pm - 6:30 am.
Day to Day Activities
- Independently operates, maintains, repairs, and inspects wastewater treatment plant and collection system (lift stations, holding tanks, grease traps, etc.).
- Performs quality control tests on wastewater.
- Uses precision measuring and testing equipment.
- Adjusts chemical feed equipment.
- Analyzes laboratory and other pertinent data.
- Analyzes water or wastewater for pH, turbidity, chlorine residuals, alkalinity, hardness, etc.
- Determines process control settings.
- Operates and monitors filter control systems.
- Performs process control tests to determine proper dosage.
- Recognizes and corrects changes in system operating parameters starts up and shuts down treatment process units.
- Troubleshoots and makes adjustments to correct potential process problems.
- Checks water or wastewater treatment process functions during shift.
- Monitors and controls ozone generation system.
- Understands and implements wastewater treatment principles.
- Performs preventive maintenance on all assigned equipment.
- Performs reactive maintenance as required.
- Picks up equipment parts from vendors.
- Installs, repairs or replaces functional parts and components.
- Routinely inspects plant equipment and facilities.
- Completes work orders and basic forms.
- Performs and maintains housekeeping standards.
- Understands basic electrical safety.
What We Are Looking For
- High school diploma or GED.
- Class 2, 3, or 4 Wastewater Treatment or Water Treatment LA Department of Health Certification.
- Relevant Wastewater Treatment Plant experience.
- Ability to work 12 hour shifts on a rotating schedule.
- Ability to work some nights and/or weekends.

Physical Requirements
- Normal, corrective vision range; ability to see color and to distinguish letters, numbers and symbols.

- Occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds
